ADA Safety Issue & STAR Case

Hey all, just a quick heads up. Picked up my level 1 RHO two weeks ago and took it on a 2,200 mile road trip before heading back to Sarasota. The truck has been flawless except for the hands free driving assist.

In hands free mode on the interstate on a left hand curve, if the curve is VERY gentle the truck hugs the left fog line which while not ideal is ok. If the curve is even slightly aggressive, and I'm talking a 70 mph I-80 curve, the truck will cross over the left fog line into the rumble strips and ask me to take control. Happened at least 30 times. If I wasn't in the far left lane when it happened I would have sideswiped the guy next to me or run him off the road. Pretty serious safety issue as far as I'm concerned. Doesn't seem to be as much of an issue on right hand curves.

Kudos to Chris at RamCares who was very responsive and let me know there is a STAR case, S2519000010, for the issue. I'm taking the truck in a week from Wednesday and won't use hands free until it gets looked at. If anyone is experiencing the same I'd recommend taking the truck in and letting them know about the STAR case. If you've had the same issue and had it fixed I'd love to hear your experience.

Same issue here. Took a vehicle and star number to service center and they drove it and said it didn’t do it. Star # they looked up was about a different issue. I may need to try somewhere else. Let me know if you have any luck

I will. That's the wrong star case, for pulling to the left. It's going in on Thursday and I'll let you know. I think they'll either have to align the cameras or replace the ADAS module. We shall see.

I have used it for a 600-mile trip, and it worked pretty well. It works about as well, perhaps slightly better, than Rivian's, where I came from.

How is it a joke? Let me tell you. Forget curves. Lane centering is horrible. The adaptive cruise is harsh as hell for costing / accel

You want to see self driving in action? Drive a new Tesla. It’s unbelievable and after you do you’ll be thinking how behind Stellantis is.

And how do I know ?

I just bought a model 3 performance. It comes to you. Parks itself. Drives anywhere. Auto changes lanes etc etc etc. it’s absolutely ridiculous how far ahead they are compared to my RHO. My RHO can barely make it around a gentle bend on a highway without cancelling and Still can’t get Apple car play to connect in the truck. Lmfao.

That’s why the auto driving is brutal. Tesla is light years ahead of Stellantis. Not even close.

A big part of your gripe is you are comparing apples to oranges. You are comparing full self drive to driving assist. You are expecting the ads to be something it's not and was never intended to be.

As far as the curves and lane centering, I can't chime in yet. All of the ads I've used has been on a stretch of highway that's a straight line to work. In September I'll be driving to Big Bear and intend to test it more so I'll get back to you on that

Also the fsd option for Tesla is a 10k option (atleast it use to be). Would you have paid an extra 10k for fsd in your RHO?

No. But I paid a lot for shit that don’t work. Like phone as a key, CarPlay etc. Stellantis can’t even get that sorted out for a lot of us.

Mine almost murked me on few curves, mostly at night, couple during the day...it tried to send me into the median at 80mph.
The other downside to hands free driving...I would be wide awake driving for hours no issues, 5 mins after I start using it, I would get hella sleepy. Happened every single time, so I just stopped using it.

Yeah. Mine has done some crazy shit like the random emergency braking with nothing there. That’s happened 3 times. Once on the highway.

Tesla FSD is amazing & amazingly scary, at the same time.

As for price, you can buy for $8K, which covers your use of FSD indefinitely on that vehicle, or $99/mo, cancel anytime.

Amazing: Car had to make a left turn into a construction zone with the roadway splitting into two separate paths marked by 100+ traffic cones…I was still trying to figure out where the car was going to turn when FSD correctly assessed the situation & completed the turn.

Scary: Car approached intersection with green light & had to make a right turn. FSD stopped abruptly to let a car in the opposing lanes with a left blinker active enter the intersection and make a left turn into front of us. Why scary? We had the right of way & nearly got rear-ended by a person turning behind us. It ignited some road rage as that person decided their best option to “teach us a lesson for stopping unexpectedly” was to tailgate us for the next 5 miles! Really, really smart.

FSD is logic based. The other drivers on the roadway are often not logic based.

It is only supposed to work on highway. I’m guessing they just checked the lane warning and didn’t really listen to my concern. But I was in a rush to leave and couldn’t stay any longer.

Mine will show all green and hands free active but will be nearly a foot in the other lane without any warning. Or prompt to take back over
