Well after 3100 miles and it's first small road trip I finally killed the batteries somehow. Walked out this morning to a beautiful brick. Oddly this happened after the latest update.

Keys are always safely away from the truck... Nothing plugged in and I have no modifications done yet that would drain the battery. I was due for an oil change anyway but it's a headache I didn't want to face on a Friday. Especially after watching the OKC thunder get beat last night.

Also when I get in the truck the center unit is flashing intermittently... Has anyone seen this before?

The dead batteries probably causing the screen to freak out.

Yup, low voltages/battery cause modern vehicle electronics to really freak out. Even if the battery wasn't dead, but was delivering odd, irregular, or low voltages, you'd have a bunch of electronic gremlins.

So moral of the story is to NOT accept the update…
My RHO has been flawless so I’m going to turn off the auto updates in the settings.
I can't say it was the update but after I updated I also got a wireless deactivated message as well as a uconnect message telling me to go to the dealer... Also my odometer started flashing. I had intended to go to get my oil changed today but not like this 🤣

This is my philosophy. What do I need to update for when everything is already working? All risk no reward

When I checked in the guy that handled my issue told me there's been an uptick in issues with the wifi and antennas on our trucks... He also said that they're slammed with battery and wiring issues on Mopar cars trucks and suvs... So it isn't just Ram trucks...

Im really having a hard time believing all of these batteries are defective. My major concern is whether the truck electronics are causing the batteries to fail… and we will all be changing batteries every few thousand miles.

Yeah true, it’s under warranty, but having to tow to a dealer (if it can’t be successfully jumped), and wait on service is more than a minor inconvenience if you have a busy enough schedule as it is.

Also, seems low batteries are cause for some of the other electrical failures, which makes some sense if they’re not able to pull enough voltage or amps.

It’s definitely a real concern as it’s not uncommon to read a few new battery failures around here every week.

No, it’s not just Ram…it’s any brand owned by Stellantis. It’s an Italian company that also owns Fiat. Fiat electronics are less costly (and, not known for reliability), so the prior Stellantis CEO thought he’d introduce the American brands to Italian electronics quality.

My prior Rams were flawless…at least in terms of electronics. But, the latest was a 2015, while Ram was still owned by a German company. You might have heard of Mercedes Benz? Yeah, they owned all the Chrysler brands for several years.

And, COVID put a lot of the component suppliers out of business. You now have new, inexperienced suppliers producing unproven component designs.

It’s the perfect storm to make Ram trucks quite quirky & problematic. It’ll get better, but it’s gonna be a while.

Agreed. I never thought I would say this but I’ll take electrical component issues over say, 6.2 liter recall from GM, the V6 TT recall from Toyota and 10 spd Transmissions from Ford.

None of it is good…or fun for owners.

True, but on the flip side at least the other manufacturers have a fix or have recalls out to make things right. When is ram going to do right by their customers? In general I agree tho that id rather deal with electrical than an engine issue.

Speaking as a rep for a large manufacturer, Ram will most likely issue Service Bulletins. Repair/Replace upon issues in for service. Recall will only happen when there is significant issues with a major component (motor, transmission, brake components). It pains me to say it but unless it poses a safety risk, the best we can hope for is a Multi-Point inspection and testing, replace components that fail tests, and move on. May be able to squeeze an extended warranty period if social media pressure mounts. I wouldn’t hold my breath for anything more.
