So, I was looking to buy a new Lock'r Down Console Gun Safe today for the new RHO and found out that they are no longer in business.

I've had a Lock'r Down safe in my past four trucks and freakin' loved them.

So, what are folks using as a center console gun safe in their RHOs?

Thanks!

Someone else posted this here. I do not have one yet.

Looks like it is on sale now.

I wondered if they would go out soon. They raised their prices once or twice, and then all the cheaper units that looked almost or just as good came onto Amazon and other places, sometimes for almost half the price. I still have mine from my "old" 2020 Limited installed into my TRX, back from before their first price bumps.

I would pay extra for USA built, but not double or more, not for a console safe. Sorry to see them go, but it is easy to see why, unfortunately.

I had a Tuffy safe in my 2020 Built to Serve Bighorn. Ordered one for the RHO, doesn't fit. Hopefully they make one soon. They are great safes and cheaper than the competition.

I bought the tuff lock box for the floor. Easy to install and secure. Plus bidding under the matt.

I almost always keep that thang on me if you know what i mean ;)but it's nice to be able to lock it up in console box when going into bars or concerts and such.

Is that the safe that came stock with the Buitl to Serve?

I don't mean to come across as a smart a@@ so don't take me wrong, but with a gun safe if you need that firearm in a hurry don't the gun safe defeat your purpose?

Those are my exact thoughts. i always have mine hidden on my waist in an IWB holster, always at my fingertips and ready to use. locked and loaded. Only time the glove box "safe" would be nice is if you live in the hood and plan on going into a bar, concert or somewhere you dont want to carry i guess, at least your gun is safe somewhat. Anyone steals your truck tho they will get into that box in 5 minutes flat with a cutoff wheel and a free glock. Your truck is not a safe, keep your weapon on your waist. Thats my .02 cents

Lets say shit hits the fan and you need your gun, have fun unlocking your truck, unlocking the "safe" and finally getting your gun out. You are dead. At the end of the day you are spending $300 to half-ass protect a $500 gun and destroying your quick access to the gun. everyone has their use cases tho i guess. Im just not going to be the one found dead while trying to fumble into a glovebox safe. LOL

Same reason my gun is never locked at home either. If I can’t get it quickly, I might as well not have one.

Love my WB holder and always have it there or laying in the console hole where it's totally concealed, but I can grab it quick if I have too from there but like it on my waist locked loaded ready NOW. I cannot imagine trying to line my fingerprint up and getting in a safe with one coming at me! But I hide it in the console hole if I can't have it with me.

hahaha...excellent point I have a gun safe for lots of stuff....but I have a locked, loaded hand gun in every room in my house just me and the wife in the house, and they are high no visiting child could get to. If need arises, I will shoot my way to the safe for bigger help!

Sorry, never meant to hijack the thread and get off subject....

Yes, im definitely not shitting on anyone who wants one of these at all. Just stating my outlook and what i do, take it for what you will. Im sure there are plenty of uses for the console safe! Traveling with cash is one instance or if you have toddlers and dont want a gun floating around in the cab when its not on your waist. Set up your life how you desire! Everyone in this forum are awesome people and want to be supportive as possible.

Yes, 100% agree with your opinion for sure!(y)

I carry 95 percent of the time here in the communist state of NY. But there are places here and across the country you just are not allowed to carry. Some Goverment agencies, amusement parks, schools and other restricted facilities to name a few. For those places I can’t carry, I feel least did my due diligence to not just throw it under the seat unsecured. I would rather remove in the parking lot, lock it up and do what I need to do and have it back on me when I return to the car.

This is for my long trips:

I am considering a magnet for my truck again, but was cruising the forums to see if there are ideas for securing my weapon during travel, yet keeping it accessible.

I carry 99.9% of the time. Most of the time, it's just IWB, even when I get in the truck. However, like other comments above, I have to think about when an unfortunate situation occurs and the ability/time to access it. Currently, it is under a shirt, and then the seatbelt is also in the way. In my previous Ford, I put a magnet under the dash and would use that to hold the weapon, especially on longer trips. I like the holster idea, but I'm unsure how to mount it, and the holster does not come with it if I need to grab it. Truck guns are prevalent in Texas, but I do not like keeping my weapons in the truck, unless I go to a grandkids' school function, then I need to make sure it's tucked away in the truck until I return.

Any carry options others are using in their RHO I could consider?

I carry appendix IWB also. Usually, because I have tinted windows, I’ll take my shirt and seatbelt and put those behind the gun, still in the appendix position, so I can just reach down and grab it of if I find myself in that situation. Easy fix, doesn’t cost money, still safe, and still legal.

I tried appendix carry; it just didn't work for me. Something about the gut getting in the way. I have to run a 3 o'clock IWB. I've done the same when traveling in questionable areas. I agree. it's a cheap and effective workaround. (y)
