Installed two accessories today. RB20 slim steps and MX4 bed cover.

Side steps look decent. Went with powder coat to help match the two tone. Instructions are lacking but after two attempts, figured it out. Steps seam sturdy enough. Don’t say Go Rhino anymore on the logo. Ok, whatever. Guess Realtruck owns everything now.

The Bak MX4 installation was disappointing. I’m comparing this to my last MX4 purchased 6 years ago on a ram 2500. Everything bolted similar. The bulkhead foam gasket was not in the best shape. Sealed as it should so moved on. Side plastic guides seamed fine and bolted on.

Had a problem with the latches making contact to the rail. Pushed, pulled, did not want to latch. Back edge of the cover does not overhang the tailgate. Fit and finish is behind the 6 year old unit. Gaps looked bad as well. Of course, logo says Realtruck instead of Bakflip.

Sorry lot of words. Anyone else disappointed in paying $1,200 for the MX4 lately? May give it a week to settle before returning.

If I had not bought my MX4 months before the truck arrived, it would have been returned instantly. All of the same issues you've described. Absolutely a piece of junk.

Interesting. Ours works great. Had to spend some time getting it lined up properly and the rails level. Took some time but came out great. Instructions were meh, but got it figured out.

So previous instructions for my last truck called for spacers. Did not install and still worked perfect. This one appears to need spacers and they were not included. Mainly latch issues. Going to sleep on it but first impressions, very disappointed. The older one was fantastic.

Take pictures and share. Doubt I’m doing something wrong but curious.

Wife has the truck in Dallas but here are a couple of pics. One side wasn’t latching at first but then got it all together and latched. Let it sit in the sun for a bit, and all good.

Same accessories here, first time with either brand. I too made the mistake of staring at them in the garage for months before truck arrived, so felt committed. I got the MX4 to function as it should, but took much more effort than I was expecting for the price. I had to fool around with different mounting bracket pinch points to get the rail angle where the cover would click nicely, not interfere with power tailgate, form a good seal, etc. Low profile look sold me.

Looks sharp but I need it to function. May try some shims this afternoon.

FWIW, once you spend the initial 2 hours throwing tools across the garage and adjusting it by 2 c-hairs at a time until all the latches actually do engage, it works pretty much fine thereafter. I do sometimes have to close the last panel with enthusiasm to get one side to grab, but otherwise it's been OK.

I will say it leaks pretty good at the tailgate. Learned that the hard way with my lady's shoe bag on vacation.

Realtruck has been acquiring alot of brands lately, yes. Slowly they will all say Realtruck rather then the independent brands. The are aware of the QC issues they've been facing as well...which is nice for them to admit.

For the money, I really like the Rough Country version of this cover, for almost half the price it does the job great. MX4 is still a very popular cover for us but everyone likes to save a few bucks so that RC cover gives it a run for the money. Grant it it does come up a little high when flipped up, but we aren't running into that daily.

Really putting this down for future people coming across this.

To be very fair to Nick he did try to talk me into saving money and going with this one. I didn't listen and now I know better :)

After having a BakFlip MX4 that spanned multiple RAM 1500s, I opted for the Undercover UltraFlex on the Rhino. Had one on two previous GMCs and fit and finish just seemed to be a lot better. Same functionality but IMO it just seems to fit better. And I like the carpeted underside. The one for my GMC actually came with a light on the rail but I guess they did away with that on the newer ones.

Gaps in the back are horrible. Previously owning a Gen 4 figured this is across the board on the new ones. Hate to glue on weather stripping to a new truck. May have to.

Rain in the forecast for the foreseeable future. Will be testing shortly.

I went with the Line-X version of the Bakflip MX-4. I saw them open the box, which said “made by RealTruck for Line-X”..HA!

For $1350, Line-X will install & provide lifetime warranty. A couple bucks more, zero hassle. Plus, their installers put the bulkhead foam seal on the cover, not on the truck. A nice touch.

That being said, I do not think they engineered this cover to withstand the forces of running fast off-road. After bouncing the truck in the sand dunes of UT, I noticed a gap at the tailgate. The cover had shifted forward on the rails. Easy fix…just loosen the front anchor knobs, shift it back & tighten the knobs again. Glad it didn’t let go & damage the cab or break the rear glass.

I used this screen grab from a trx install video for rear alignment.View attachment 13608
I’ll have to go look at mine, I don’t think I have that much overlap.

The biggest time suck was getting the rails level. Once I figured it out, it was easy. But it was a pain figuring it out for some reason 😂

They really need shims. This was clearly a case of engineered to spec, but never test fitted, product.

So I hike up the rear of the rails a bit. Pulled back a hair to overlap the tailgate. Had to move the bulkhead foam. Cover needs to be 1/2” longer. Latches much better. Still a big gap on sides of the tailgate but not Realtruck/bakflips fault. Happier.
