Is there an upgrade to the rear axle shock? The oem looks like an entry level Bilstein but could be wrong.

Are you having issues with axle windup/movement?

No. It’s more of a future purchase/upgrade. If I see signs of fluid leak or unpredictable axle movement, I would like to replace with a better shock.

Its interesting you say that, as on ALL of my cars, Mercedes, Volkswagens, Trans Am, my vintage Mustang....Bilsteins are always the upgrade :) Trucks must be different

There are different levels within Bilsteins lineup. When it comes to trucks you have products from Fox and King that are equal to or better for the type of use these trucks are designed for.

When the time comes, or I get a wild hair. I will most likely be putting a king under it, might be overkill but at the same time I use washboarded gravel roads all the time at work.

This is the most popular option, from what I've seen on the TRX forum.

What makes me hesitate on it is that it requires some grinding to fit, despite supposedly being specifically designed for our rear axles.
