RHO resonator delete

Hey guys

So i did this on my TRX IN 2022. Mopar uses a mesh style resonator. 2 per side from axle to exhaust tip. You can take a 3 inch exhaust bandclamp to cover these and get a different tone. It sounded alot better on the v8. Just figured id try and help give you guys another option. Will try to attach some photos. My plan is to swap muffler and delete valves as end result. Magna flow 12599 or 12469. Im trying to stay away from straight pip as i did this and kooks down pipes on my 2017 raptor and it got annoyingly loud. I loved. Neighbours and wife hated me haha. Trying to get a happy medium with the RHO.

Sorry guys i did half ass one and it cut off half way. Ill do a new one of the after results. Its nothing crazy at all. I can hear it a little more in cabin. And also i can hear my cold start from inside my house a bit too haha. Im hoping with an aftermarket muffler and valve delete i can get a sound i like. We ll see.

So the last 2 days the cold start high idle runs almost 2 minutes before it lowers. Also it was -16 degrees celsius this morning and i only got 750km on the truck. Not the best videos but take from it what you can

RHOCAN, just to confirm, are both videos of a stock RHO exhaust with four (4) 3” band clamps covering the rectangular mesh thingies between the stock muffler and the tips?

With no before and after comparison it’s tough to say but it does sound better (smoother and less raspy?) than basically all other stock clips I’ve heard. But your backed up to your house/garage so that could be playing a part in that.

One question, assuming these things are supposed to be resonators, have you noticed any increase in resonance/drone in the cab?

It’s strange to me that effectively deleting resonators would result in a smoother and maybe even deeper tone.

But it’s a cheap and quick type of experiment thing with little to lose so I might give it a try.

I watched a video of an engineer who worked on the stock system. From what I remember, they aren't traditional resonators, they are pieces of metal welded onto the exhaust pipes that alter the frequency of the exhaust vibration. They added them to reduce unwanted higher frequencies.

So, the frequencies that don’t sound good to Ram that they’re trying to tune out with these mesh patches are perhaps tuning out some of the frequencies that some of us prefer.

Nah, I think they are cutting higher frequencies...we want deeper, messing with these will create tinier sound, in my opinion. Helps explain why most of these Aftermarket exhausts seem to sound raspier, with higher pitch mixed in. Also explains why just swapping the muffler and valves to the XPipe muff like I did, resulted in a deeper tone with zero rasp.

Ya like i said earlier take from it what you want. Its louder than stock but miniamal. They use this style of resonator for cheap manufacturing costs and theyre literally identical on the TRX. Even the location on the pipe. Its not specifically designed for the RHO. Keep in mind these are 2.5” squares of perforated material. A standard resonator (can style) has that same material 360 degrees around and the length of the canister. Generally the purpose of a resonator is to reduce drone if that helps. But resonators, material type, gauge of pipe and design/ bends of tubing will all change tones/ frequency.

I was just sharing for someone who doesnt wanna chop theyre stock muffler or a step between stock and muffler swap. Also adds a bit of tuning after a muffler swap incase its not enough this would allow you a last “sound tuning “ option. And most importantly you can try it without cutting and welding for dirt cheap.

I swapped in a paid of Vibrant 1750 resonators and much deeper start up and idle. Still not what I would call loud. On start up these mesh "resonators" just sound like an exhaust leak now... airy and awful. Covering a rear one my hand (literally) on cold start cleans up the sound a bunch. I plan to just have them welded shut at some point. Maybe with the stock muffler it helps but changing the tone and flow quite a bit without valves and the big stock muffler makes these mesh openings not function as intended anyway...

Ya i couldnt agree more. Low rpms and idle sounds like a leak also with my muffler and valvle delete. Im gonna do a different settup soon and block them again. How you liking the dual vibrant resonator settup? And did you end up blocking or welding mesh?
