Coming from a line of Toyotas I’m at a crossroads in choosing between an RHO and Raptor. Given the higher quality interior, smooth I6 Hurricane and pricing of the RHO, it’d be a no-brainer, barring the absolute mess of a company and leadership of Stellantis. Ford seems much more stable with a stronger outlook, and I’m not questioning if the EcoBoost powertrain will be around next few years.
So my question is am I accurate in feeling like buying the RHO to keep for at least 5 years, is a toss up on whether the RHO or Hurricane is discontinued and long-term support suffers? The idiots who decided to make the EV Dodge Charger that only lasted 5 months gives me serious concern for the direction of RAM.
TIA!

Stellantis has gone all-in on the Hurricane across multiple brands. I cannot imagine they abandon that R&D in 5 years.

Also this is a forum of consumers. None of us know any more than you do.

As a former gen 1 Raptor owner, what pushed me away from Ford was the ecoboost and their issues. Everyone I know personally that owns an ecoboost has had issues. From cam phasers to total engine replacements, I've seen enough problems to turn me off. My current Ram (5.7 hemi) has been with me for 3 years and has never left me stranded and has done everything I've asked of it and more. That was enough for me to want to give the hurricane a shot. Plus the fact that their are a handful of dealers offering 9-10K off RHOs that are already decently cheaper than Raptors and it was a no brainer for me. The gen 1 Raptors will always hold a special place in my heart, but every Raptor since then has just been meh to me. The RHO is a better deal and worth taking the risk on IMO.

Yeah I’m leaning towards just pulling the trigger because of warranty. It’s just a shame Dodge isn’t a standalone company.
For reference does $72k OTD for a base (lvl 0) sound like a good deal? I’ve been reading posts about deals under that but it’s not tracking with dealers i call.

Mark dodge and a few others r gonna make the deals with 10k off or around there. If you go with them level 1 is a no brainer. You can get all the stuff of a 82k truck for 72k. The extra stuff from level is worth it IMO.

Most dealers won’t discount it because they r gonna lose out in about 8k in gross profit if they do

I'd say that's a decent deal IF you want it right now and don't want to wait for an order. Mark Dodge and Koons of Tysons both heavily discount ordered RHOs. That'll be where you see people getting $9-10k off.

Yeah getting out of our current vehicle needing repair so can’t wait till fall/winter.
I ended up putting a deposit on a lvl 0! $71k OTD

My experience with a 2nd gen ecoboost raptor
10,000 miles
One of the secondary fuel injectors failed and required the removal of the intake manifold for replacement
20,000
Truck developed a water leak at the firewall to passenger floorboard this was due to ford using foam gasket surrounds on the wire harness that passes through the firewall instead of rubber.
Everytime it was going to rain heavily i literally pulled the carpet and jute back from the floorboard and put a abzorb bucket under the glove box for moisture
There was no fix
30,000
The left side plastic valve cover cracked (width wise) almost half way across and started spraying oil into the engine bay with no check engine or oil lamp illumination. Thank God I just happened to be doing an oil change right after it must have happened and of course the part was on backorder with no suitable a/m replacement. I ended up having my mechanic 2 part epoxy it,had my detailer clean the engine bay and undercarriage and dumped on carmax who was none the wiser

I will never buy another ford product for as long as I live

I don't see them moving away from the platform as it needs to be offered in their line-up to compete with Ford and Toyota. What RAM is missing is a V-8 which sounds like they are addressing as they are losing customers to the 5.0 and 5.3/6.2. EV's are failing across the board with Ford, Dodge/Ram, Hummer/GMC. I had a gen3 raptor and was extremely disappointed for the money, lack luster interior, horrible 10 seed transmission, other quality issues as well(unfortunately that's a risk with any car manufacturer nowadays). I do question the ecoboost powertrain in the coming years as Ford is due for a refresh and they need to up their horsepower on their V-6's.

my 2 pennies;
With the TRX returning, I dunno if the RHO will make it 5 years or not.
With the Hurricane in multiple lines, I don't see that ending within 5 years.

Between bumper to bumper and powertrain warranty you'll be close to the 5-year mark unless you go through a lot of miles. Trade in doesn't seem to care if the vehicle is still in production or not (trading an ecoDiesel for example, those $'s haven't taken a hit since the new ones ended). You can use the warranty to determine if you want to risk to keep it or not.

New member here, RHO owner since mid-April. The TRX and RHO compete in different market segments. The TRX is a direct competitor to the V8 powered Raptor R. They are the "halo" trucks for both companies, and as a result they cost six figures plus. The RHO competes directly with the EcoBoost F-150 Raptor, and in my view is a significantly better value with higher quality interior, more features, and most importantly more horsepower!

Given that perspective, I can't see RAM ditching the RHO for the TRX. It is attracting a buyer who can't afford the TRX or Raptor R, and/or simply doesn't want to spend premium dollars for the halo truck. That's why I bought mine :)

If Ram was smart they would run the RHO and the TRX side by side, just how the Raptor runs side by side with the R. A lot of the hate for the RHO came because it felt like a lesser TRX, but it's still a direct competitor to the regular Raptor, and the regular Raptor doesn't get the hate that the RHO does.

With the TRX MSRP creeping up near $100K in it's final year, I can't imagine the new TRX coming in much cheaper, and if that's the case the RHO is a great option for those of us not able to drop 6 figures on a truck. So I hope Ram sees that and keeps it in the line up.

This is the way.

The I6 HO is a major engine for Stellantis - lots of R&D went into it and it's in just about every line they carry...I'm no insider, but I have a hard time believing it's going away anytime soon (think 3.6L Pentastar V6). Sure there will be tweaks, and yes it has its issues, but it's a great product which will only get better with real world use.
As far as RHO vs TRX - the RHO is way too profitable a truck to discontinue IMO. Personally, I chose it over the TRX simply because the TRX is just 'too much' truck for me, and I don't mean dollar wise (If one can afford $90k, one can afford $110k). The RHO is a perfect blend of what I miss in my old Grand Cherokee SRT and what I'll miss in my current 5.7L 1500. Nothing more, nothing less.

Why does everyone keep talking about the TRX returning as if it's a definite? No reputable source has confirmed it to my knowledge.

Furthermore, if the RHO continues to sell very well like it has been, they have even less incentive to bring back the TRX.

We keep talking about it because just like we don't need a guilty virdict to know that diddy is guilty as hell, we know the TRX is returning.
I still prefer an RHO at 80k than a TRX at 120k.
