RHO tried to kill me

Unfortunately this isn’t the first time this has occurred for me, but today was the worst encounter I’ve had.

Today I was leaving soccer practice with my 10yo son. We were sitting at a stop light preparing to make a left turn at a big intersection. Light turns green for me and the car next to me to make a double left turn. We take off and got most of the way through this long sweeping turn, I’d guess at 30-35mph when suddenly the truck slams on the brakes and starts beeping at me. Of course with no warning neither of us were prepared for this, so we both slammed forward into our seat belts. It’s amazing how much easier you can withstand that type of braking if you know it’s coming! I still have absolutely no idea why it chose to brake in this event as we had no danger of hitting anything.

This left us stopped in the middle of traffic, and I’m beyond thankful there didn’t happen to be more vehicles behind us making the left turn, or they surely would have smashed into the back of us. I couldn’t get the truck to move forward again for a few seconds so we just sat there in the middle of the intersection until the gas pedal worked again. Completely freaked me out, guys!

I checked my Uconnect and of course my Automatic Braking was enabled, despite the fact I’ve turned this off multiple times. I’ve noticed things switching themselves back on when I have display blackout issues, so I’m sure that’s a result of some system reset I’ve recently had.

Seriously scared the crap out of me and I’m just thankful my son was okay.

I have to wonder how many people have been in car accidents with this BS technology.

I can confirm the display blackout can reset some settings, I had same issue but after few tries I was able to turn the thing off and it stayed off.

Also tha automatic braking function is activated if you are using ACC or self driving, happened to me few times that I was cruising with ACC and saving my right foot and it suddenly slammed brakes. I bet it has something to do with the camera as it was during sunset and even for me it was hard to see what's going on in the shadows..

That is scary AF. I haven't experienced that (yet), but I'm probably going to deactivate the automatic braking features.

I just assume all vehicles have some issues, but I’ll be honest… my enthusiasm for the RHO is evaporating pretty quickly. I’ve run out of fingers and toes to count all of the issues I’ve encountered, and I’m finding new ones even a year and a half into ownership. Between recurring issues that can’t be resolved despite multiple attempts for dealers to fix them, and new issues that continue to pop up, I honestly couldn’t recommend a RHO to a new buyer at this point. I’m pretty confident my truck will never be fully functional.

Scary AF is right. I’m just thankful neither of us were injured in this event. We both had some whiplash, but we were super fortunate not to have somebody directly behind us when the brakes hit. Could have been a really bad situation.

I have only had my RHO for two months, and so far I've had far fewer issues than with my former Rivian, so I'm optimistic. I had a 2015 EcoDiesel in the past, and it was fantastic, so I'm hoping for a similar experience here. The fact that this has CarPlay over Rivian OS, plus more physical buttons for drive modes and the like, makes it work better. That, and the less complicated suspension, have me hoping for a relatively trouble-free experience.

Regardless, I have 5-6 Ram dealers within an hour of me to choose from for service, but the closest Rivian center to my house was 3 hours one way, two states away. It sucks that your build hasn't given you the same experience. My first Rivian was great, but my second had a ton of little issues, so I know sometimes there are just lemons.

After owning my Tundra for two years, it did it to me twice the week before I traded it in. One was going under an overpass to turn left onto the interstate, and it slammed brakes on right as I was getting ready to turn and it surprised the shit out of me. I have no idea what made it do it, if it was shadows or what, but I had a pretty flawless two years before that.

and it still hit the brakes?? maybe something else is off..

BTW everytime I put truck to the shop they turn that auto braking on, I guess to get rid of that light lol

I hear you- after numerous irritations the 3 recall notices sealed it for me and I traded it two days ago. I’m not dealing with numerous dealer visits and serving as a Stellantis beta tester. I don’t need a truck, I just bought it on a whim really because it was cool.

Easier said than done. We're going through this with my wife's '25 Grand Wagoneer that's had the entire fuel system replaced twice since she got it in late November. It currently has roughly 15k on the clock. They even flew in one of the RAM engineers this past time and 3 days after we got it back the check engine light came on again. Same error code. She's now driving a 2026 loaner that we originally were going to try to get as a replacement but the first time I sat in it in my driveway to adjust all the personalized settings, etc. I found a few issues. Blown tweeter right above my head in the driver front seat, rear tires out of balance, air ride functions are a bit wonky (it doesn't lower to entry/exit height if you open the door after putting it in park unless you close the door and wait with the engine still running). The 2025 stops lowering until you get out but then continues once you get out, even if the engine is off and you lock the doors. There are also times is doesn't raise to normal ride height like it should. Once you put it in DRIVE and get above like 15 mph, it's supposed to raise to the 3rd height setting and then lower back down to Aerodynamic height at 70 mph. At least 25% of the time it doesn't. Mind you this one had 33 miles on it. AND the 2026 only has the SO motor in it.....so 420hp vs the 510hp her 2025 has. They didn't offer the 2026 with the HO motor. So she doesn't really want this one, either. Stellantis is being so difficult with buybacks and all right now. Too busy trying to roll out the new TRX and Rumblebee and attract NEW business instead of fixing the issues the already have. They keep on this trend and they'll have another 2008 failure and need a federal bailout.

Sorry for the hijack...but to keep on topic....my RHO has done the emergency braking thing to me too......while I was doing 80mph on the highway! No cars within close proximity, nothing in the road, no ADA turned on....I'm just driving along and all of the sudden it jams on the brakes. I love my truck but I'm really starting to wonder these days.....do I really NEED a truck? I could've had a 1998 Skyline R33 GTR V-Spec in factory Midnight Purple a couple of months back....

I’ve had two separate case managers with Stellantis now. The first one, ended up providing me with a 100k mi max care warranty due to the issues I was encountering at the time. That said, he closed my case as “resolved” even though my issues had not been fixed. So essentially they said that was their resolution and I’d have to open a new case next time I went to the dealer.

The second case manager who took my claim called on the first interaction and said he’d reviewed my case and had no idea how he could help me… and man he’s held true to that statement throughout the course of this one. I’ve walked him through a large quantity of issues my truck has, and let him know they’ve all been worked on by dealers without resolving. He eventually submitted me to a buyback team who promptly replied that I didn’t qualify. So here I am, still with the same broken truck, a case manager that “doesn’t know how he can help me” and denied other options aside from taking my own legal action.

To say I’m salty would be an understatement. I can’t in good conscience sell the thing with these problems and I can’t get Stellantis to help me get it working correctly either. To make matters worse, the resale value on the truck has absolutely tanked since March. I had a Carvana offer for $71k back then ($84.5k MSRP), and it’s now showing under $58k for trade in. I’m sinking with the ship over here.
