Tailgate is not going up

so today I got the truck washed and they opened the tailgate and that was fine but when I went to go push the button to put it back up, it just beeps and does not go up. Even manually, shutting it, it does not latch. I finally got it to close and latch, but the truck still says that it’s open and now I cannot open it at all.

any thoughts?

Connector or latch might’ve gone bad. Water intrusion or maybe it pinched a wire somehow. I’d lean toward the latch going bad since it thinks it’s open and not responding. I had the latch once get stuck on my truck, it stopped and then worked 10 min later. I think it did the same thing saying it was open. Try opening it after it sits and see if it sorts itself out.

Nothing to add here but curious for your outcome. I’ve had this happen twice in the last week… except mine was able to close again each time.

I had it happen and grabbed the edges and moved it side to side to center it and it worked. Somehow slid a little too far one way.
