Ok…lots of options out there to modify our upcoming RHOs to our particular tastes & needs. I’m posting this after having a few “learning experiences” with my wife’s new Tesla Model 3. Tons of crazy options for this car, but very few are proven in the field, and even fewer have years & years of refinement. For this reason, I’m posting the recommendations of a current TRX owner. This guy owns lots of enthusiast vehicles & is very serious & smart about how he modifies them. He knows what accessories are going to best meet the needs of 90+% of owners:

Bed cover--Bakflip MX-4. This one has been around & it just plain works with the fewest compromises. So, unless you need to walk on your bed cover or you need extra security of diamond plate for expensive tools & such, the MX-4 is the choice.

Power running boards—Mopar power running boards. They can be integrated into your touchscreen for unmatched versatility & are backed by the vehicle’s 3/36 warranty when purchased from & installed by your Ram dealer. So, unless you need boards that can support an elephant or need the extra power of a dual motor system for severe winter weather, the Mopar is the choice.

Paint protection film—The front 1/2 of both bedsides take a beating & should be protected. Optional are the front fender extensions on either side of the grille & headlamps, though they sit high & don’t get as blasted by debris as a vehicle that sits lower. Sure, if your budget allows, film the whole truck. But, it costs as much as a good repaint & film protection isn’t perfect.

Window film—A high-end matrix ceramic (Luumar Formula 1 or Expel Nano Ceramic Prime XR+) on the front side windows in 35-45% will minimize heat gain, reduce glare, provide some privacy & look good. With the highest quality films, no need to go darker unless you want more privacy. But remember, dark film can create visibility issues at night & attract police attention. Also, use care picking an installer for PPF & tint. The best cost more, but they are worth it 99% of time in terms of reduced hassle & nonsense.

I know there are lots more choices & some might be pretty good or better for certain needs/situations, but these are the current “gold standard” for most RHO owners. Just know that venturing outside these options can bring more compromises & hassle. Ask me how I know (husband of Tesla Model 3 owner)?

Have to check out the Mopar running boards

I’m wondering if the running boards are a match from TRX to RHO? I asked in the forum and someone said it’s been discussed but I couldn’t find it. I’d like to get things ordered before it arrives.

This says 2025 Ram 1500 compatible, but does not specify RHO.

Here is the 2025 Ram 1500 version…I’ll also post the earlier (pre-2025) part. Different part#s, as expected due to different electrical architecture.

BakFlip was bought by Realtrucks. Super cheaply made now. FYI

This is my first truck since 1988....

Is this the area just past the separation between the cab and the bed???

I had an Undercover tonneau on my 19 Colorado ZR2 (yeah, I know lol) a few years ago and I really thought it was a quality top - and I especially liked the carpeted underside.

Does anyone have any recent experience with this one?

I’ve been looking heavily into the Lomax Trifold. What’s the hivemind consensus on that one?

Yes!

Can it be opened to fully expose the bed without removal? That is one of the high points of the MX-4…it can actually be secured open to ride down the freeway with larger cargo objects.

Oh wow…that’s no good! What are you doing for a bed cover?
I currently have Line X tonneau cover. It was basically a BakFlip with a line x coating. I'm going to look into that again or Undercover Armor.

One of the Line X model looks exactly like the MX-4! Ha! And, it looks like I can purchase it locally, so I can see the quality before buying.

Good find, Yoda.

Yeah, it's nice. And it comes with a lifetime warranty if you buy it from a Line X dealer. Good luck.

I have it on my TRX and had no issues. I also like the carpet on it and it looks great with the bed rug.
