This was a good interview imo. I didn’t realize there’s no 2wd on the truck.

Drive Mode Matters? Here's How Ram 4WD Auto Works from the Engineer

Watched it earlier, good job thanks! Now do a video on how to set up all the screens!!!!!

Commented on the video this morning but I’ll just ask here too! Copy paste from your channel

Hey Tim, Doug mentioned the torque split between the front a rear axle would be different depending on the drive mode you’re in. I.E. Baja mode, Rock / Sand mode. But I don’t think he mentioned what the torque split is in the drive mode that is used most often, the auto drive mode! Is there a way to ask him what the torque split is for the auto drive mode and I guess all drive modes that were not covered in the video?

Oh that’s on my agenda. I also want to do something on the cameras. I’ve been using the heck out of the passenger drop off camera for my boys.

So he says it was a very small amount of torque when the system is on. I can follow up on all drives modes. I had thought about going through each of them, but I wasn’t sure if people would want that much information.

And sorry I didn’t respond on YT. There are times I just have to take a break from YT comments.

Hahah I’m all too familiar with that, thanks for following up, much appreciated!

Is there not a way to turn the AWD similar to the TRX?

Less than 50% and more than 25% 😜

I’d love to know how Hennessy or any others did a dyno pull with the front wheels locked and it not throwing codes. Did they disconnect the front driveshaft?

Chris

Yes

This is what I mean…he is confusing us by explaining 4WD Auto on most American full-size trucks, which is not the same as 4WD Auto in RHO/TRX.

I was the person who asked about torque split in Regular/Automatic on RHO on YouTube.

He was very coy to say that Ram is very serious about the “4x4” badge on their trucks after mentioning AWD. Yes, RHO has a true 4x4 system when you switch to 4x4 High or Low. But when in 4WD Auto, RHO and TRX are AWD. He did not clearly state this & the marketers would have been pissed if he did. You see, AWD is for SUVs & minivans…no way could a mighty TRX be AWD! But, it is, when in its default transfer case mode.

Simply put, no the TRX and RHO isn’t AWD. Period. I laid out the differences. You hear what you want to hear I guess.

No disrespect, but you are confused. You didn’t want to hear it was AWD. My wife listened while I was watching the video & she heard your summation of what the engineer said…her actual words: “Why do you listen to this guy…he obviously misunderstood what the engineer told him.”

Here is the transfer case used in TRX/RHO…not my words (copy/pasted):

“The BorgWarner 48-13 full-time active transfer case is a type of all-wheel drive (AWD) transfer case that automatically distributes power between the axles. It's used in some Ram trucks, including the 2021 Ram 1500 TRX and the 2025 Ram 1500 RHO.”

Doug Killian said, "AWD only engages when a tire slips. Auto 4WD sends torque to the wheels at all times."

Those aren't my words. They are his.

Dude…he was explaining 4WD Auto in most full-size American pickups, including most 4x4 Rams…not the same as TRX/RHO. He could have been clearer, as he switched back & forth a bit.

That may have been intentional on his part, as AWD does not carry the same off-road “credibility” as 4x4 in the marketing world.

Done.
