I have the same opinion that the battery gauge is simply inaccurate. I can go on a drive that sits around 13.3-13.5v, turn the truck off and come back 5mins later and the truck starts up and goes to 14.3v.
If it’s anything like my ambient temp gauge, there’s a pretty big margin for error on these sensor readings!
