2025 RHO
What’s up everyone. First time post here. 2025 RHO just blew a motor. Thermostat went, truck overheated, and block cracked. Stellantis ordered new engine. Want to lemon this piece of shit of a motor. Notice motor…super nice truck but motor sucks. Evident by the return of the HEMI next year. Anyone in same boat?

The return of the Hemi was to satiate the crowd whose BMI exceeds their IQ. Not an indictment of the Hurricane, as evidenced by it still being the top tier engine choice even with Hemi back.

Sorry this happened to you, though. First one of these I've heard of.

I had a 2021 Power Wagon with a 6.4 Hemi and now have an RHO and I will take the twin turbo all day.

I saw on Facebook that a dealer had let one idle to “charge the battery” and when they came back to it, all the coolant was on the ground and the coolant reservoir had melted. Who knows how long they let it run, but I assume something else went wrong there. They stated the motor needed replaced as well.

Sorry this happened to you. I’d be pretty pissed/frustrated as well. But just because this happened to one person (that I’ve heard of so far) doesn’t mean the engine sucks. Bad thermostat caused catastrophic failure. They’re doing the right thing and putting a new engine in your truck. In fact 95% of the issues I’ve heard of have not involved the engine itself, but with the plethora of electronic control modules and their communication problems.

This motor outperforms the Hemi in every aspect (except sound).

How many miles on the truck?

Which tuner did you have on it, JB4 or Diablo?

My last truck was a 2020 Ram 1500 with a 5.7 Hemi, which failed on me. Hemis suck.

Jokes aside, glad you’re getting it taken care off. I’ve read of MANY issues with 2025 Rams, but this is quite literally the first related to the engine. The vast majority of issues have been electrical in nature.

Sorry this happened to you but I can relate....it's how I ended up in a 2025 RHO. My 2024 GMC AT4X 6.2L spun a rod bearing at 21k miles. I won't say the 6.2L L87 engine is crap as I had a 2021 with the same motor and it was flawless. Just piss poor manufacturing for a bit and mine happened to be one of them. That said....I do have a lemon law claim in process since it was more than a 7 week wait for a new engine and GM KNEW what was going on with them and chose to handle them on a case by case basis (there's now a recall) and only allotted so many engines for repairs while they were still cranking out more for new vehicles.

I know it's frustrating and don't blame you for wanting to try to lemon it. But I'd trust RAM ALL DAY over GM or Ford. Hopefully it's just a one-off where it was built on a Monday and the line techs were all hung over from the previous night at the strip club

That is interesting. There was a TSB on the Wagoneer's for what was deemed a defective thermostat from the supplier; something like sediment contaminated the production run from two particular points in time. This prevented the thermostat from opening properly, thereby resulting in overheating. (If the thermostat got stuck open, no big deal, it would just take a little longer to heat up, which it already does very quickly.)

I was hoping our MY24 GW would not be affected, but when I noticed it creeping up to over 230°F sitting in line for briefly for a car wash, I brought it back to the dealer and had them replace it. They did a good job, had it replaced and the vehicle back in 2 days. Still weird how it creeps up, but it shouldn't even get to 220°F.

The Hurricane motor is otherwise very good. I'm not sure what the big deal is with this thermostat, and it shouldn't be happening on MY25 anything at this point, but Ram/Jeep ought to figure it out.

Good info and maybe something to set a gauge on the display to monitor. I see there is a temp gauge present on the lower left, but that’s just a dial with no indication of actual temperature. At 230F, do you happen to know how high that gauge got?

I shut it off at 232°F; had it into the dealer the following Monday. They didn't have any loaner vehicles but they were able to get to work on it right away. We rented another GW from Enterprise and Jeep reimbursed us. It's my Wife's primary driver, but we have those 5 tiles setup so that we can monitor her tire pressure and coolant temp on the same screen.

Dude, this sucks. I'm sorry you have to deal with it.
If the thermostat went out, that's not a "engine" problem. I have seen plenty of good motors go because of a cooling issue.
This is the first thermostat I have heard of in a truck platform too. I really want to see how this whole system stands up long term.
Hope this gets fixed fast!

Sucks that it happened but it's FAR from a "Lemon Law" event. Shit happens with EVERY manufacture...it will get fixed. Its a great truck.

Chris

PS coming on here ranting what a crappy engine it has, is false in so many ways but you read what you want and Im sure you are upset and thats not helping matters, but its SUPERIOR in every way to the Hemi. Many here and myself included left ours behind and are not looking back.

I agree with this. So far, i'd say the only concern with the trucks is software/electrical related. The engine itself has been great (minus the exhaust note).

Thanks, that’s a good visual. Look at the gauge on the lower left. It’s still below mid-point, so I would have never guessed the actual temperature would be at a concerning level.

My first thought reading this thread was why there wasn’t some high temp warning before engine damage occurred. I’d expect there are some safeguards in place in this event.

I have 6500 miles on the Hurricane HO motor in my 2025 Tungsten. It has had zero motor issues and runs like hell over my 2019,and 2023 5.7 Hemi. But I have had electrical gremlins first 1000 miles but now all good. Sorry, it happened, but the Thermostat is not the Hurricane issue. Glad Chrysler is taking care of it for you.
