I've seen a TON of posts on here about ppl ceramic coating their RHO and the first question always seems to be, "how much did you pay?". I've seen anywhere from $500-$2k. My question is...

What ceramic coat brand did you get AND what did the shop include? Reason I ask is the guys getting the $500 coats, that's just got to be spray on ceramic right?

I had my guy quote me $2200 for 9yr Gtechnique which also includes, decon wash, clay bar, 2 step paint correction, and then coating windows, windshield, trim, paint, and front face of wheels. I'm waiting on a few other places to get back to me with quotes and what brands of ceramic coat they use, what prep work is included, etc.

Extra $300 to do full wheels and windows which I passed on

Mine was $2100 for all of the same additions that you are getting.

$2,500. Decon wash, Prep, Paint correction (obsessive), Ceramic Coat specific formula for Painted surfaces, Windows, Plastics (even under hood), Vinyl wrap, and Rubber.

Wheels were removed and same process was done to the wheel face & barrel, wheel wells, and suspension components.

This is super cheap. Nice find if they do a good job

Very reputable shop here in Maryland. This is the going price in the Baltimore area. Lot's of competition which is great for the consumer. I priced several shops and all were $1,200 to $1,500 for the same services.

I forgot to mention the coat all the plastic trim too and headlights.

I think for my guy to do the barrels of the wheels is another $200...at least that's what he charged me on my mustang...and it was totally worth it.

I paid 900 for System X Max G + on everything - paint, wheels, windshield. Included a full paint correction etc.

Maybe I'm an outlier but....wow.....I don't know that I can make myself spend $2k to have ceramic done. My thought is most of what you're paying for is labor and warranty.

I have pretty much all the tools & materials at home to do mine myself....just haven't taken the time to do it. It also means I'd likely need to pull my boat out of storage so I can use that space to do the work in.

The cost is >95% labor. If you have the tools and know how you can do this for less than $200 easily over a weekend.

Correct.....I have claybars, a good Torq polisher & pads, cutting compound, polish, ceramic coating (Chemical Guys...maybe not the best stuff but still).....just need the time and space to do it. My boat storage offers plenty of space with concrete floors and power so...may have to take a weekend, suck it up, and just do it. Turns out I have a small "hail" ding in the hood, too, that I didn't notice until after I took delivery. I should be able to pull that out, too.

If I may make a recommendation, IMO the best consumer grade product on the market is GTechniq Crystal Serum Light topped with EXO v5. It's a perfect intersection of workability and protection. You can top the EXO off once every 6 months and you'll be good for many years.

Some of the professional grade products can have some pretty gnarly consequences to misapplication for very little additional benefit.

I agree. I just don’t have the time or expertise to do it.

The company I used gave me a free loaner car too. Which is awesome considering the time it takes to get it done correctly.

Around 1,200 where I’m at but I would never buy into the bs of a 9 year coating. That’s just never going to be realistic, and you’re being charged for that.

Thing is the 5 yr coating is only $400 cheaper, so $1800 total. So why not get almost double the time for $400 more?

It will never last that long. Unless they are going to give you a 9 year warranty. Which most don’t go over 5 regardless of how long the product “lasts”.

True. I'm actually researching the whole "5yr vs 9yr" debate as we speak. I get that the product wont last that long, but my installer also does a yearly "maintenance" on the coating so that helps with the longevity. I'll have to ask him more details.

For what it’s worth, I did a DIY ceramic coat on my last Ram. It was black paint, and felt like it was worth giving it a shot on that color. I bought all of the necessary materials and my own polisher, which I think set me back around $350 in total. That said, if I wanted to do another vehicle it would be much less expensive now that I have the polisher.

I wish I could remember the amount of time I put in, but I think it had to have been around 12hrs. Again, I was a beginner which surely slows things down, but overall I would say it wasn’t a difficult job and I was very happy with the results. I had that truck for 5yrs and 100k miles, and there wasn’t even a paint swirl on that truck when I traded it in. I’m definitely a believer in the ceramic coat product.

Now I bought a white truck which I don’t plan to go through that similar pain on. I chose a more forgiving color specifically to avoid worrying about such things, in fact.
