Just some thoughts when I hear “radar detector”. I’ve owned several detectors over the years, when I was young & daring. I also drove sports cars.
The RHO is NOT a sports car. It is 6000+lbs on 100lb per corner AT tires/rims.
Because of its height, it tends to mask speed. Because of its size, many may be fooled into thinking they are “invincible”.
Let me assure you…these things will flip. And controlling it at 80+ MPH when something unexpected happens is no joke. It’s at those moments you realize how much kinetic energy has to be scrubbed off & how much damage can be done before you come to a stop. As an accident adjuster & insurance underwriter for over 15 years, I’ve seen a lot.
Here’s my advice. Don’t speed…in most trips, you just aren’t saving that much time. Set your speed alarm for 75 MPH, so you don’t find yourself unexpectedly going 90+ when something jumps in front of you.
Fun story:
When I was 19, going to college in Boston, living at home in NJ on breaks, dad got me a brand new Trans Am. T-tops & everything. Well, on my 1st trip from NJ to Boston, I pushed it. Normally took 4 hours. This trip took 3 hours & 40 minutes. Upon arriving at my dorm, I called dad & thanked him, sharing my story of “time saved”. Dad said, “Great, so what are you going to do with that 20 minutes?” Me, “Ummmm…sit in my dorm room?”
Dad didn’t have to say another word. Lesson learned.
