SAFETY ISSUE!!!!

In @Frenzy's case, even the door buttons wouldn't unlock the truck. This tells me that there's some kind of intermittent problem with the power locks overall. If it's not a loose fuse, then it must be an electrical short somewhere. Maybe a loose connection, or a frayed/pinched wire.

I have had a similar experience that you described @Frenzy.

There is a location that my spouse and I frequent, to grab drinks and food. In this specific location, the truck's key fob will not work after I shut off the truck. I have had to manually lock the truck using the door controls from the inside. When I came back out to the truck, the key fob would not work to unlock the truck. I had to use the key shank, and when using this it set off the alarm. The key fob would not start the truck either to disarm the alarm. I kept receiving a message on my dash that the key fob was not detected. We ended up waiting roughly thirty minutes, keeping the fob about 15 feet away from the truck. After that time frame the truck started normally.

This has happened twice with both key fobs at this location. The owners of the business have mentioned other tuck owners have experienced similar concerns. When we shop there now, we take a different vehicle, or one of us waits in the vehicle while it remains running.
How did you get the alarm to finally disarm?

It turned off after waiting about 10 minutes. I tried multiple ways to turn it off, but all failed.

I also received a security alert on my ram app.

I wonder if it would unlock via the app? Not a great solution but might work in a pinch.

Hi again, @Frenzy!

I believe you may have sent a private message our way in the past, but if you would still like to discuss the above, we're here! Realizing we're a little late to the draw here, but always welcome conversation.

And thank you for the mention, @GregHellcat!

No. I went through all these same thoughts a couple of years ago. And after a ton of trial and error, and then checking the forums, I found that it's just a quirk with Ram trucks.

wow you are right, tested it today lol.. wtf

This is a HUGE safety concern and RAM better figure this one out otherwise there is going to be major trouble...@ramcares

Sometime last week I remote started my truck from the house prior to taking my daughter to school. As we walked out to the truck I grabbed the passenger door handle to unlock and open the door only it didn't unlock. Walked around to the drivers side, same thing. Mind you the truck is still started. Tried unlockingwith the key FOB...nothing. I had to use the valet "physical" key to open the door. Once the door was open I hit the unlock button on the door armrest...nothing. Crawled over the center armrest to unlock from the passenger side...button did nothing. I had to pull the unlock "stem" next to the windows in order to unlock the back door to let me daughter in.

This morning...

On our way to my daughter's football/cheer game we had to pull over so I could grab something from the back seat and I couldn't open her door from the outside. Same thing happened, no unlock/lock buttons working. We get to them game, park, start to walk to the game and I press the lock feature on the door handle...you guessed it, nothing. Key FOB...nothing...buttons in truck, nothing.
I had a similar thing happen that I agree is a major safety concern. Had stopped at a store and the doors would not unlock. The driver door unlocked as i was inside. It was a pretty hot summer day and my 3 year old was in the backseat. Luckily my door was unlocked as the key fob nor app would unlock the doors. I had to crawl inside to manually unlock the doors. The doors would not lock nor unlock once I got home. The issue resolved its self and has not happened since but it was a very worrisome and concerning issue. I even scheduled an appointment with the dealer to look into it but canceled as it self resolved. The only thing I can think of that may have effected it is using the phone app. I was using the phone app to remote start the truck. I stopped using the phone app that day and haven't had an issues since. Of course correlation does not equal causation im gonna refrain from using the phone app to limit possible causes.

I used the much older generation of this tool in my previous life. Not exactly the answer to this problem, but very effective for wanting to get in or out without an impedance in an absolute emergency situation. I carry a similar tool in every vehicle I own. Pro tip: Always turn your head before using.

Well, happened again today! Tried to unlock/lock from the app and nothing happened. Sad thing is I cant even get into a dealership to have it looked at because nobody has loaner vehicles. I'm literally on a "wait list" and they'll call me when one comes available so that i can drop mine off for an extended period....

Anybody in South Carolina know a good dealership in either the Columbia or Myrtle Beach area? The ones here in Charleston seem to be worthless/

DO you have rental car insurance as part of your premium? Also ram should foot the bill for a rental car if your truck is in the shop. My local dealer is trash and doesnt even give loaners no matter what but thankfully have too many vehicles and dont need a rental or loaner.

Have you noticed a correlation between when this happens and your use of the app? Not a permanent solution (and quite unfortunate considering the price of the trucks and better integration from other brands) but i know i haven't used the app since the same situation happened to me and the situation has not occurred again... maybe something @RamCares may be able to look at?

All 3 times this happened was after remote starting w/ the key fob. The app is of no use to me since all it can do is lock/unlock doors.

I'm actually going to make a phone call to the dealer and find out if I just rent a car would it be covered, but I pretty much know that'll get shot down.

Unless it's different there, your insurance rental car rider only covers rentals when your car is in the shop due to damage related to a claim you've made (like a crash). Doesn't cover just dropping your car off for repairs like this.

You are correct, i think i just have an add on to my AAA or insurance that covers rental car while vehicle in the shop with no insurance claim BUT that being said, i have been told by my dealer if i need to rent a car while truck is in the shop, save receipts and ram will reimburse you. Knowing RAM definitely a gamble. LOL. im sure ram cares can clarify.

Just got off the phone w/ the dealership, SHOULD have loaner vehicle w/in the next 2-3 days so fingers crossed I can get my truck in fairly soon.
