Shift to P and then desired gear notice

Just picked the truck up yesterday, so I’m just getting acquainted. I was just sitting at a stop light and my dash flashed this notice

“Shift to P and then to desired gear”

I was in D at the time, and looked down and my D was flashing. I shifted to P and then back to D and took off at the green light.

I have no idea what caused that as I don’t think I had hit any controls. Anybody else encounter this one? I haven’t seen it come up on the forums recently.

Mine did this once. It was going from reverse to drive. May have accidentally got it to neutral. Figured the truck was confused so I obliged, put into P, then back to D. No issue before or after.

My Jeep JL did that too and the driver’s door was not all the way shut

Happened to me first time today! Was wondering same thing. I came to a stop and engine auto turned off and then same thing came up on dash. Gave throttle and it just rev’ed up as if I was in neutral or park. Put it back to park and back to drive and no issues. Just a weird occurrence.
