When is everyone planning on changing their oil for the first time? I’m at about 3500 miles. I know some have changed at around 1000-1200, but that ship has sailed for me at this point.

Is it wise to change soon, or wait until the 6000 mark?

Also, I know some have done the differentials and transfer case. I know that’s pricey, but so is the truck. I don’t mind paying if it’s a wise thing to do, but don’t want to waste money if it’s overkill

Thanks in advance for everyone’s thoughts!

I did my first one at 4000. I wanted to go around 2500 but just didn't get it done before my road trip.

I did my first oil change at just over 1k . Won a Amazon gift card at a work raffle so my job ended up paying for most of the Pennzoil haha

I would change it at 4,000. Manual says never to exceed 6,000 and 4,000 is the recommended for "Severe Duty"
I changed mine at 1,000 and will continue 4,000 mile intervals

This every six month thing is kinda stupid imo. I brought my truck home Jan 2nd and currently have 1,381 miles on it. Looks like if i do the six month plan I will be doing oil changes at 2k miles lol.

I did my first at 500, second at 5000 along with front diff, transfer and rear diff. I'm just above 9,000 right now, going to be doing another oild change soon. I'm planning on a 5,000 interval plan

I changed the oil on my RHO right after a trip to the dealership - around the 1,000-mile mark.

Yes, I know the truck is overbuilt, but it's a turbocharged engine, and the break-in period is critical for long-term performance and longevity. Early oil changes help clear out any metal particles or debris from the engine’s initial wear-in.

To me, comparing a $140 oil change to an $80,000 performance truck is a no-brainer - cheap insurance for protecting the investment.

I did my first one right about 5000 miles. My dealership questioned why I wasn't waiting longer....they had no clue there was the 6K max on our trucks. What I don't understand is why the oil life monitor was showing 48% oil life left at 5200 miles, it should have been showing more like 10-15% left.

Yep - most people will use the oil life monitor which seems to be set somewhere around 10k.

Service advisor told me first at 3k, and then at 5k - I was about to change oil based on the oil life monitor as usual, interesting that manual says 6k is max. I usually drive on highway and was doing 7-10k intervals as the monitors are based on the engine load, rpms etc not just plain miles

3k and 5k, or 3k and 5k intervals?

I'm currently at 7.5k miles and still haven't done my oil change......I wasn't aware that it needed to be done at 6k. I ordered some AMSOIL and I'll be doing it this Friday. How do we change the interval mileage on the digital cluster?

To reset it to 0 or make it so the oil life monitor reflects 6k in the future?

3k and 5k, or 3k and 5k intervals?
Think he meant 3k first and after that every 5k or in your case when you hit 8k do your second oil change. I did my first at 1k and will do the second at 5k and the third at 10k etc

Gotcha. That's my plan

Interestingly, the dealer oil change sticker they put on was for a 5k interval mileage.

So that the oil life indicator reflects 6k and not the 10k.
As far as I know there is no way as of right now. I would hope they would do a software update at some point if they want max 6k oil changes since the general public goes off oil life monitors which will go way beyond that.

Aren’t oil changes and regular maintenance items included in the first 36 months or 36k miles, maybe it’s 24 months, if so why wouldn’t anyone get them at 1k mile mark then regular intervals thereafter?
