Timing for First Oil Change

Aren’t oil changes and regular maintenance items included in the first 36 months or 36k miles, if so why wouldn’t anyone get them at 1k mile mark then regular intervals thereafter?

You coming from a Mercedes? Unless you buy a service package you don't even get 1 free oil change however some dealers do give 1-3 oil changes but that is dealer specific.

Man I’ve been getting free oil changes for 2 years now on my Ram limited, can’t remember if I bought a service package lol.

Yea apparently Prosper CDJR added it to my purchase and I don’t realize it

This thing definitely worth it and it not only covers oils changes but all regular maintenance items for 10 years 100k miles. Filters air/engine and transfer case fluid changes and rear dif. On my previous ram they even covered spark plugs at 90k. If you get full maintenance package.

I got it for my rho in January cost was for full maintenance package with 10 oil changes $1270 but I choose the one with 20 oil changes and come out to 2170.

My brother works for this guys though so your prices might be different.

I appreciate this thread! I would've gone all the way to 10k miles before my oil change. I ended up ordering some AMSOIL and did my oil change Saturday night.

First was at 1k and from now on, every 3 to 4k miles.

Interestingly, the dealer oil change sticker they put on was for a 5k interval mileage.

For what it is worth, I had mine done at 1k miles, and they told me to come in at 6k...

I always do my oil changes at 5k, for all vehicles I have ever owned. I always feel if there is one thing to not cheap out on or to get lazy with is oil changes.

I’ll change mine around 1500 and 5000 intervals moving forward.

Honestly, I did 10k intervals in my Hemi, and didn’t do any other fluids earlier than the maintenance interval suggested. Everything ran trouble free for the 100k I owned it.

I know this is a different truck, but dropping every fluid at 1500mi does feel like overkill.

The last two vehicles I owned I went by the oil life monitor which coincided with the dealer recs.

This is the first time I've had a vehicle where the oil life monitor and the manual/dealer say something entirely different.

Okay so call me lazy or whatever but I'll likely be doing mine next week after my roadtrip to Houston this weekend so what oil is everyone using? I haven't even checked the filler cap to see what weight. Looking at the above Amsoil pic I'm assuming 0W40, which seems like thickened water but I guess that's what engine manufacturers are calling for these days. My failed GM 6.2L L87 called for 0W20 and apparently now GM is backpeddling and saying "Oh...yeah.....um....we're changing to 0W40 now....." so I'm a bit leery....of this really thin oil stuff. But then most everything was still running 10W30 in gas engines when I was a service advisor so...
