Hi Everyone,

Been lurking and decided to join. Very interested in the JB4 tune but was wondering if RAM itself will offer a tune upgrade for the RHO?

Thanks for the input.

Probably not for the HO motor, and definitely not before they get all of the bugs worked out of the stock HO motors.

If they're smart they will.

Surprised it took Ford so long for a factory tune for the EB motors.

RAM obviously left a lot on the table with the OEM HO Hurricane tune...looking forward to a JB4 myself most likely.

Ford's factory tunes, like for the Ranger Raptor, are kind of an oddity...

Because it was released in Q1 of 2024, we see the Ranger Raptor and its tunes as new here in the States, but the truck has been tearing up the dirt roads, beaches, and the Outback of Australia since September 2022.

Australia was like a countrywide testbed for Ford EB engines for the last 2.3 years.

RAM will need a bit longer to put some miles under the RHO before they release anything.

All manufactures are heading in the direction of subscription based accessories and tunes. Tavares was talking about it at a shareholders meeting last year. The 500hp scat pack could be 600hp for $xx a month. They will need to get better at programming before they can make it work IMO..

I also think that Ford released those tunes because the HO version in the Ram/RHO flat out spanks the EB in both the base F-150 Raptor, Ranger Raptor, and Bronco Raptor. Ford was outgunned on their prize off-road trucks and they didn't like it.

There was a lot of noise about a Hellcat tune for the TRX via Dodge Power Brokers (like what was available for the Dodge cars). Never materialized - I personally think it was never even a serious consideration on their part.
Finally, Granger motors teamed up with Nth Moto to create an aftermarket version of it, but Ram never did anything.

I’d be pretty skeptical of a factory-supported tune for the RHO…even if Ram itself was hinting at it.

IdealRace is developing a proper ECU calibration for the factory MG1 ECU and ZF8 TCU. Y’all are in good hands :)

Working on a de-tune also, by chance? An eco mode would be nice for when I'd prefer stable 200 of horses (reduce boost)

I always wonder why any product that can switch between tunes doesn't have an eco/mileage mode, makes total sense.

Totally agree, it'd just need to reduce the boost and get air fuel ratio ratio n such to keep it stable. I like the ponies but don't need them for much of my driving and I wouldn't let the wife drive the truck in its current config.

Now that I think on it, maybe I'd let her but I'd have to put cams everywhere to monetize the comedy to cover the inevitable total loss. :ROFLMAO:

I highly doubt it

Horsepower timeshare ..... can I borrow your extra HP when you arent using it ? (maybe like crypto mining)

Since our trucks rarely reach 8th gear due to wide body aero & AT tire drag, I’d say stabling 200 horses won’t do much for mpg. A better approach if you want to effectively increase mpg would be smoother tires & maybe a lowering kit.

Kinda defeats the purpose of RHO, but not everyone goes off road. Suppose if you don’t go off-road, a Laramie or Tungsten would have been a better choice. They can get 20+mpg in 2WD, if kept to 65MPH or less.

In my mind an eco-mode would essentially just be a drastic reduction in boost pressure. This would also allow for leaner fuel maps and overall better efficiency in my mind ;) In practice, it might not be that significant because of the massive weight of the truck, tire size, ride height and such, like you say.

Off-roading rarely requires the kind of HP we have in our trucks though, and truthfully a front locker would be more practical than jumping every obstacle, albeit considerably less thrilling.

I bought mine to use as a daily and for play, but I think an ‘eco’ tune for long, flat stretches would be great. I think they could net 2-3 mpg and it would extend the range a bit for road trips. Love the truck so far - even the sixer.
