Dealer used aftermarket oil filter

Champion Labs (under First Brands Group) produced a large portion of OEM oil, air, and cabin filters for multiple automakers — including Ford, MOPAR, and GM.

First Brands filed for bankruptcy. When First Brands collapsed:
  • The Champion Labs filtration plant shut down permanently.
  • First Brands began liquidating inventory and equipment, removing a major supplier from the U.S. automotive supply chain.
  • OEM programs for Ford and GM were directly disrupted, causing shortages and longer lead times for service parts.
Filters are now in constrained supply and it's affecting all 3 automakers. Premium Guard, Inc. (PGI) has acquired the intellectual property and assets of Champion Labs, including filtration patents and engineering capabilities. The acquisition is pending final bankruptcy‑court approval. This affects MOPAR and AC Delco.

In the meantime, WIX WL10255 $5.15 or WIX Extreme Duty WL10255XP $7.52 on RockAuto are your best bet in the meantime. Mobil 1 M1-212A @ $10.25 are good, too.

In Canada maybe, here the dealerships can only get “Mrs Buttersworth” pancake syrup. Damn you to hell cancel culture, give us back AUNT JEMIMA!!!!
You’ll never get our supply of the good stuff. Enjoy your thick sugar water. Bwahahahaaaaaaa

It sounds like maybe PGI just bought all of Champion Labs assets, including the production facility in Albion and will reopen the line there soon. Champion Labs made filters for a lot of OEM's and they made great filters. I have like 3 remaining AC Delco PF63's that I've been using up on my RHO and Grand Wagoneer, and by the time I need to buy more Champion Labs will be spitting out new filters later this year.

We’ve been a maple syrup household for a while. I’ve been experiencing a strange desire to watch hockey for some reason…..

Back in 2016, I bought the 1st new C7 Z06 with supercharged V8 in TX. GM paid for the 1st oil change at 500 miles to preserve the LS7 engines. Quality oil was important & I confirmed with my service writer that OEM Mobil 1 was being used. They said YES.

Imagine my surprise when I walked around the oil change building & saw three 55 gallon drums of some German sounding brand with hoses going from the barrels & into the building. I saw the tech fill my engine using one of those hoses & freaked.

Thankfully, another C7 owner was waiting & told me he researched the brand after being told it was OEM fluid. He compared the specs to OEM & found the dealer’s oil was superior in just about every measure of quality.

My engine ran fine & never had a problem. Sometimes, OEM is not the best.
OEM is usually NOT the best !! They value cost over quality (for the most part) ! Thats why there is companies that make premium products, but at a premium price !!

The best oil filters on the market are the Mobil 1 Extended Performance, WIX XP, Fram Ultra Synthetic, and PurolatorBOSS. These premium filters use dense, full-synthetic or synthetic-blend media that capture over 99% of contaminants down to 20–30 microns. I don't see Mopar on here :ROFLMAO:
