Engine Sounds Like It’s Going To Die

Mine also does this. No check engine lights. Almost died once when putting into gear. But it does not do this on every startup.

Mine used to do this- RPM’s would drop and seemed like it was about to stall out. While watching air/fuel ratio gauge while it was happening, it also showed it running lean. Can’t remember which happened first, but It has not happened once in the month and a half since I changed the intake.

Which one did you get and where from? Is there any immediate differences in sound (turbos)/performance? Thanks in advance for your answer.

I got the AFE track series from 797 Performance - @Nick797 should be able to help you out. More turbo noise, maybe a touch better throttle response, but can’t really tell any significant performance difference.

Well if it can possibly stop those crazy rpm swings or whatever is going on would be great.

Ok so today while I was waiting at the airport for 30 minutes, suddenly the RMPs dropped, lights went off for a bit, then the RPMs went up and down and the engine stalled. Started the engine, it turned off right away. Display said something like "restart needed". Started again, the engine was running but wanted to stall again, so I held it around 2k RMP for like 5 minutes, then let of gas and it was ok... wow it never stops with these trucks ...

Go to your gauges in your cluster and not unconnected. When that’s happening the truck is swinging from very lean all the way to rich. Taking mine Monday as they’ll have me a courtesy vehicle. Mine mainly does it after a cold start, but has done it warmed up. Said it may need to have retuned. As long as it doesn’t throw the 98 mph beast on me I’ll be fine.

Go to your gauges in your cluster and not unconnected. When that’s happening the truck is swinging from very lean all the way to rich. Taking mine Monday as they’ll have me a courtesy vehicle. yes it does that but not sure if the lean to rich is the cause or the effect of this issue.. I will keep my eye on it but my cluster doesn't work well either my oil change is due soon so will just drop it off with the list of issues

Just got mine back. Was in the shop for 2 days after I told them about the recall. Sure enough the purge valve/hose recall was replaced and everything seems quite a bit better…so far.

Must’ve been. It’s much much better. I was also watching the cluster gauges and they were fairly steady. Huge difference. You gotta figure anything like that or vacuum issues will cause that rough idle.

Mine started this crazy idle about a week ago. Now it is a regular thing.

Call your dealership and ask if you have a recall. It fixed mine.

Mine did this again a few days ago as I was backing out of my driveway. When I stopped at the end RPMs dropped, lights cut out, then RPMs came back up. Sitting at the dealer now. Of course it’s not doing it today but I told them to check the Evap Purge valve maybe save them some time

I already did the PCV recall and software updates and it still does that....
