IGLA/Compustar

Do you mind giving me the phone number where you had it done. I'll have my IGLA installer contact them if they have any questions. Thanks brother.

Alright Gang,
Have any other folks here had IGLA installed on your vehicle recently?

I'm in California, and as far as I know, there is only one installer here in Southern California. The problem is, his communication's been pretty hit-or-miss. One week, he says he's ready to schedule me, then the next, he's saying he's still sorting stuff out with RHOs, and then I don’t hear from him for a while. I’m starting to wonder if he’s totally confident in getting the installation done right.

For those in Southern California who've had IGLA installed, did you have any luck? If so, drop the name of your installer!

I haven’t heard of any RHO thefts around here yet, but for $1,200 and with my car parked on the driveway, I’m not willing to take any chances.

Just take a trip up to central CA and have it installed at the shop I mentioned above. Very prompt service and they always keep spots open specifically for IGLA installation.

It's the same situation here in AZ. I was gonna bite the bullet and then radio silence. The time gave me a chance to gather my wits and I realized the biggest problem with IGLA, and why i'm going with Ampire is.

IGLA installers all put them in same place, won't tell us, the customer where and cite an additional layer of security. Here's the BIG problem there, a not so well intentioned individual can take a vehicle in and get IGLA installed, get back to their hideout, strip the vehicle and find it. Now they will know and be able to distribute the secret and we are stuck with a $1,200 -$1,600 useless device.

This kind of thinking is not my own, it's what the thieves already do and have done. Take Range Rover immobilizers for example: https://www.thesun.co.uk/motors/203...about-shocking-car-theft-trend-takes-seconds/

I'd go with IGLA if more or at least better customer oriented installers and only if they let US choose the location for device, which would provide randomness. Isn't that the best additional layer of security, or am i being random?

For now, the IGLA device is probably one of the most effective anti-theft devices out there. I haven't heard of any vehicles being stolen with this device installed.

I believe the location of the device is vehicle dependent... they might even be able to place it in different locations for a specific model (only a dealer would know the real answer to that). Regardless, the scenario you proposed is unlikely as it would require a would-be thief to take their RHO in for a $1500-$2000 IGLA install, then figure out where it was installed, etc. So I still think this device is well worth the money, especially when paired with an aftermarket alarm system such as compustar.

It's a fallacy to think that you can ever achieve 100% protection with these anti-theft devices - if someone wants your vehicle bad enough, they will figure out how to take it.

I hear ya, and I wasn't looking for 100% protection but for the money, I am very much expecting it to be the best protection. I can't get an answer as to if location is vehicle specific or what not but after talking with locals that have igla in hellcat Durango, chargers n such, they all seem to think it's in the same general vicinity. Again, some transparency from IGLA usa would go a long way here.

For sake of argument and since we have zero transparency, let us assume they install device within 1' of same area on ALL vehicles. If that is/was the case, how happy would you be with your purchase? For me, I'd be displeased in a major way. A criminal could then theoretically bring in any vehicle and strip for location. Again, all we have is hearsay and speculation. I'm not comfortable spending that kind of money on a product that a company will not provide even the most basic of clarity about with a shop that is nearly impossible to reach and can't guarantee their work.

Some can take it on faith and that's terrific for them. I require more, and I'd suspect I'm not alone there.

Fair point. But no, that doesn't bother me. If your assumption is correct, then thieves would have figured this out a long time ago. IGLA has been around for over 5 years now and I haven't heard of anyone bypassing it by any means. I still think it's best when paired with an alarm system, as IGLA doesn't tell you if someone has broken into your car and with enough time, high level thieves may be able to locate the device. Nonetheless, it's still worth it to me.

The fact that installers don't tell you the location of the device also doesn't bother me -- I don't need to know that (I'm not sure why anyone would need to know that) and it prevents the wrong individuals from getting that information. I'm sure there are others who disagree with me and agree with you (and vice versa), but all that matters is if you're happy with your purchase.

And yes, It's unfortunate that there are so few installers out there. Some installers do offer mobile installation, if you're willing to pay a premium.

At the end of the day, it's your money and your investment. Do what you think is best. I'm just offering my opinion as someone who has the device installed on their vehicle.

Totally agree immobilizer is just one component in antitheft 360 of protection. Ampire does the same thing and with mobile install is gonna run me same price but has less features but I'll know where it is if it shorts or bricks my truck. Like you say, if someone wants your vehicle they will get it, I just want only the most sophisticated of criminals to earn it. It'll make the conversation when I take it back all the more interesting :ROFLMAO:

Glad you got all sorted, and I like compustar idea as well, just not a fan of carrying more fobs. 3 fobs would make me feel like a janitor.

If you get a tazer down the way, there is something you can't do or it creates a brick situation too, if I recall correctly. Something about marrying or pairing to truck.

I appreciate your different point of view and thanks for sharing.

lol yes, gotta make the thieves really work for it!

Yeah, the extra fob is also something I would dislike. However, Compustar can be used with phone apps, including the MyCar app, which would let you ditch the fob. I'm still waiting for the new module to come out, but will be sure to report back when I get that installed.
