Is your ambient temp reading off by 10-15F?

Is your ambient air temperature reading 10-15F higher than actual?

After paying attention, mine does seem to calibrate to actual temp after 15-20 mins of driving. I’ll post back if this changes.

Mine is pretty spot on... my windshield is tinted though, which I'm going to tell myself is the difference

Update: Took to dealer they installed new sensor it is in the driver side mirror ($15 ) on amazon if you want to do it. So far my temps now seem to be pretty close to accurate temps. Will circle back on this later on.

That’s a mopar sensor for $15?

Did it require a many recalibration, or just plop the new sensor in and you were good to go?

Mine seems to be on point.

I had dealer do it...but after watching it...I went on amazon found the PN...$15...easy job. Video coming on this soon.

My 2024 2500 rebels would show high 90s on a sunny 70 degree day. The RHO is not as extreme of a difference from what I saw, so yes probably 10-15 degrees over.

Mine is off by 10 degrees but only after it has been in the sun for a bit. Seems once it goes up no amount of driving will get it to be accurate again however. On cloudy days and my morning drive it is always spot on with my phones local weather app.

I’ve been paying more attention and mine acts similarly.

I’m about 15deg high if it soaks in direct sun, and it doesn’t recover.

On cloudy days or early mornings, I’m about 5deg high and remain there.

I did purchase another sensor and I’ll swap it out just to see how it compares. Maybe I’m not expecting any change, though. Feels like a calibration issue.

Well, they put the probe in an area that’s surrounded by black plastic. What did they expect? No wonder it reads high in direct sunlight.

Coming from a 2020 Ram with a black mirror, this wasn’t a problem with a properly functioning sensor.

I’m going to jinx myself, but ours has been pretty darn accurate. That doesn’t make sense because they’re all built the same. I’ll take a screenshot of the weather app and the display next time I’m in it.

No, not here.

P/N for reference?
I looked it up online and found the following Mopar P/N: 68457701AA

I searched Amazon and did find there are multiple options. The Mopar sensor was a bit longer delivery time, and my first one wasn’t working well anyways, so I chose this aftermarket option.

I just completed install. It’s a couple minute job. Hopped in the truck and it was reading exactly the same temp as my garage. My garage was 15F higher than outside temps, so I took a drive and this sensor recovered quickly. I suppose it was down to ambient temp within about 8-10mins.

I’ll report back after a sun soak.

after new sensor I am still off 3-5F but its better than 10-15F off.

Got a chance to do a sun soak today with the new sensor. I was off by over 20deg this time 😬

Both sensors are pretty much identical in function. Best I ever see is 5deg high.

Ok, now call me crazy, but if you put a thermometer in the black housing its going to read the ambient heat radiating off that object. This isn't rocket science...

This is going to give you an approximate reading given the current conditions. When Im in traffic in Houston on hot day, ALL of my cars are off because of heat radiating off the concrete.

If you guys need to know the most accurate reading, use your weather app, put your arm out the window to see if its raining or look at the trees to see if the wind is blowing.

I feel like many are you making a bunch of nonsense out of nothing :)

Agreed. I don't need my speedometer to work either. I just look at the trees as I go past and make a general guesstimate.

Speedometer is different, from the factory that should be accurate as there are no variables outside a minute differences in air pressure and tire wear. Temperature is a WHOLE other level of variabilities.

Who here bought the truck to tell them if it was hot or cold outside? 🤣

Chris

PS My 66 Mustang tells me 5 things. Speed, water temp, oil pressure, volts and fuel gauge. You know what I miss.

It sure as hell isnt the outside temp gauge....its a tach. I will need to add that with the new 363 that is sitting on the engine stand. That's it.

Everything else is just fluff(well ac is pretty darn nice and I may end up adding that :) )
