Main Battery Not Charging - CEL P068A & P2AF5 (Open Relay “C”)

Is battery replacement covered under 3-year/36K bumper-to-bumper warranty or is it considered a wear item?

Just had my RHO go dead the other day at work. Got a jump and trickle charged over night. But now I live in fear & am shopping portable jumpstarters...

It's replaceable under warranty in these situations.

Just heard from the dealer that the root cause of my issues was the infamous “blown fuse that causes dead batteries”.

I’ve seen several other posts from other members about a fuse blowing that caused dead batteries in their truck’s 1st ~2K miles. I was around 1,300 miles when it happened, in the midst of my 1st long road trip of course.

In the dealer’s words, it’s a “150 amp fuse array”. The only 150 amp fuse I see mentioned in the manual is for the “Aux PDC”. That doesn’t sound like it would affect the charging circuit between the main battery and the alternator, so I’ll be asking if they can point out the location of this fuse array when I pick it up.

Assuming it’s an OTC part(s) I’ll be traveling with a few of those fuses in the future…probably easier to replace the fuse than running an extra battery cable between the positive posts of the two batteries to keep them both charged.

Unfortunately, no one was at the dealer that I could speak to about the repair when I picked the truck up. But the service ticket says the PDC was removed, the main 150 amp fuse in the PCM fuse array was found blown and replaced.

Part #68668632 is referenced but Mopar shows that as being a 100 amp fuse array, when 150 amp is referenced 3 times on my service ticket.

Regardless, all seems well with the truck now.

If you’re warning lights are going off and a DMM shows that your main battery is not getting a charge from the alternator when the truck is running you probably have a blown PCM fuse array.

Mine was a failed auxiliary battery. So that was replaced under warranty.

Dealer also performed some open recalls - and is ordering parts of other open recalls & will contact me once those parts arrive.

Overall it was a better experience than I expected honestly.

I just really hope it doesn't continue to be a problem. I guess I could always upgrade to improved batteries over the OEM unit/s too.

Called to schedule service visit with local CDJR dealership & service advisor didn't know what RHO was.

I'm off to a good start.

This is why I'm concerned about handing my truck over to someone other than my technician friend. Anyone else feel the same? Maybe I'm just paranoid...

so what was the problem with you batteries?

You’re not paranoid. You’re gambling whenever you hand your truck over to a dealer. But in many situations you have no other choice.

Get Auto Zone to download any error codes and then decide what you’re best options are.

As far as dealers are concerned, less is more on all fronts.

my 26 level 1 just had the 150amp fuse replaced, CEL lit up. starter relay c stuck open. all is good now.

Glad they got you fixed up. No apparent reason for the fuse blowing?

I guess the question I have is why is a 100 or 150 amp fuse blowing in these trucks? Before the RHO I’ve never had to replace a fuse in a vehicle since 1982. And now we have guys blowing 150A fuses??? Any insight ?

No idea other than that fuses and fuse arrays can be defective just like batteries or anything else.

I haven’t heard of it happening twice on anyone so that could imply defective fuse/array vs. underlying problem.
