I have not yet tried launch mode myself. I just don't have a good place around me that I have found so far. What is the "official" method? Press the button, smash the brake, floor it, and let it rip?

yes, but first set the launch rpm desired target in the computer. And floor it with brakes held until it reaches that target rpm, don’t give partial throttle input to reach target rpm, foot to the floor.
