I used the Mopar stuff from the dealer. Not terribly priced & they didn’t mark it up.

The Mopar transfer case fluid was $$$. I’d use Ravenol next time. BW44.

30,000-mile fluid change analysis results attached for the engine, transfer case, and front & rear diffs. Engine and front diff in good condition. Viscosity for the transfer case and rear diff were a bit thinner than spec, but all other properties were in good condition. Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 0W-40 in the engine, Mopar branded fluids in the tc and diffs.

The other fluids were changed at 5,094-miles.

Results like these...make me question why one would spend near twice as much on other oils.

with a max oil life of 6k....all qualified oils will perform the same.

I am more concerned with Turbo bearing coking than oil shear....That is why I will spend more money on better oil....I also want to add Cold pour into my choice, sometimes it gets pretty F'in cold around here!

I'd like to see how other brands perform in this engine.

I was actually thinking of switching to amsoil because its not much more expensive due the the cost that the penzoil shot up to.

I looked into it. Its not much more now that the price of penzoil for 6 quarts can cost between 65 to 70 dollars anymore that and they changed the formulation as well. Amsoil now has spec that is required for thr rho as well.

I gleaned something a little different from the video.

Mr. Speed said use the oil that fits your application best.

and, given all the very consistent, UOA's of PUP, I was wanting to see some Amsoil UOA's.

you know, to get a frame of reference.

here is my hypothesis...at 5000 OCI's...qualified oil is relatively all the same.

I do think Amsoil will go well past 5k....but our trucks demand a 6k interval. So Extended oil change blather does not apply here.


according to my highly scientific evidence gathering process....

PUP=$12/qt <amazon>
Amsoil=$19/qt <Amsoil site>

or thereabouts.

and, if we hold the OCI to 5k...which I hope we all do...I would like to see the diff in these oils.

if for no other reason than to see if the 59% difference in cost is of merit.



I'll add this as a point of evidence:

in a previous lifetime, I had a very S/C'd 2020 Tundra. (Harrop) ~600hp at crank.

I used Kirklands 5w-30 exclusively. with Blackstone tests

I posted a comparison of an Amsoil UOA vs my kirklands....and, at 5k, it was STRIKINGLY similar

am I saying Kirkland's is better than Amsoil? No, sir.

but...I was able to see, thru reliable testing, that those two oils are VERY similar @ 5k.

yes...at 10k...I am quite sure Amsoil would prevail.


and now, as an owner of an RHO, I am wanting to see the comparison in our trucks.


Because, as Mr. Speed said....one of the oils on the market is best for our RHO's.



and, I see that Amsoil Signature recently improved the additive pkg....I'm keeping my eye on this.
