Ram Power Running Boards…installed on RHO!

I got mine installed two weeks ago at Mark Dodge....$2,500 installed.

$2500 is about the price of aftermarket steps, but that's without install and using the OBD plug. This seems like the best way to go IMO

Anyone have photos of the underside of the frame where these install? It is my understanding that they use a single motor with a "drive shaft" to the 2nd rear arm. Where as the Amp models are dual motors on each side.

The factory frame comes studded for these OEM running boards. So far after research only the Rough Country electronic steps use these same mount points. AMP steps required you to drill the pinch weld and install riveted brackets ( according to their YouTube videos).

Sounds like the OEM is the way to go with the shortest install time and least amount of wiring.

warranty included or no?
Included.

They make weird noises, but yes, I love them too.

I bought my power steps when I bought the truck about a month ago and they were dealer installed. They worked well for a week and then they started to go up and down as I was driving with a "power side steps unavailable service required" message which is incredibly annoying and distracting when driving. The dealer can't get my truck in until next week. I kind of wish I didn't spend the big bucks on them and just installed fixed boards.

Dealer didn’t figure it out yet mines been doing it on cold days and they say can’t replicate it

Mine did the same thing infrequently for the first month or so. Colder temps as well. That was December. It just stopped doing it sometime in January. Why? Who knows. Electrical. Would not surprise me if they cannot replicate it because it is infrequent and apparently does not throw a code.

Got mine installed yesterday…my thoughts, in a word: AWESOME!

Why?:

- Obviously, they make getting in & out of the lifted truck much, much easier. I’m 6’ 2” & still needed them.

- They are stout. My 260lb frame makes them sag not a bit!

- They nearly disappear when stowed, yet still add some visual “robustness” to the rocker area.

- You can lock them up or down from the center screen. Handy when parking to avoid door dings & might come in handy during certain off-roading situations when you don’t want the boards dropping down.

The service advisor said they are “Ram branded” Amp power steps. They look & install exactly like the non-Ram branded Amp steps (well, except the molded RAM logo). You could save some $$ & go Amp (lower MSRP & you can install yourself once they release the RHO compatible wiring harness), but you won’t have the Ram integrated control or 3/36 warranty.

Did the install go smoothly? Well, dealer included them in my purchase price & they were ordered the same day using my RHO VIN. But, what they received were not compatible with the RHO wiring (they were TRX boards, even though ordered using an RHO VIN). Luckily, they figured out the correct part# & found a set at another dealer, so they sent a runner to get them. The only difference between TRX & RHO?: the connector at the power step motor is identical, but what gets snaked into the truck is all new.

I’ll post pictures later, along with what I was told is the correct part#.

Update: Correct part#82219228AA, per my invoice. Hopefully those are not the TRX boards, but a quick Google says they are for 2025 Ram, no earlier years listed.
I was lucky. My RHO came with Ram power running boards installed from the dealer.

Mine did this too for the first month or so of ownership. Now it hasn’t done it in over 2 months, also noticed it on cold days. I was reading on other forums it’s a lubrication issue. So I think finally after getting enough lubricant in there over time helped.

Very interesting. I appreciate everyone replying. I have an appointment to bring the truck in next week. I'm not overly optimistic that the dealer will fix the issue but we shall see. I will certainly let you guys know how it turns out.

Keep us updated.

I got my truck back from the dealer. It looks like that they may have actually fixed my running boards. Apparently, the truck needed a software update. This is what was typed on the repair invoice, "736 power step update checked power step found code for passengers side power step updated power step as per bulletin 08-008-26." So far the steps are operating normally. Hoping it remains that way. Maybe this info will help anyone that is having this annoying power running board issue.
