Ram RHO Fuel to use

Just keep this in mind if you’re considering adding an octane booster. From the Users Manual:

  • The use of fuel additives, which are now being sold as octane enhancers, is not recommended. Most of these products contain high concentrations of methanol. Fuel system damage or vehicle performance problems resulting from the use of such fuels or additives is not the responsibility of the manufacturer and may void or not be covered under the New Vehicle Limited Warranty.
I would advise against using methanol as an octane enhancer. It’s corrosive and has a much different stoich than gasoline.

Boostane has proven to be extremely effective and I saw no ill effects, nor have thousands of others who use it. I did notice the electrodes on the spark plugs were orange, though I didn’t experience premature fouling, though suspect there may have been some reduction of spark plug life longer term.

Ya. If I wasn’t already in the local area for a TDY I wouldn’t. How much is your shipping though? That could change my thoughts.
I am not sure how much shipping I may reach out to mark dodge and see if something could be done and how much.
But again I am not in the position at this exact time to even order it. Also my wife says she has Pam s for getting me my truck and I also kinda of want to be minority surprised. I have been waiting for a truck for years.

Sorry to raise this thread from nearly two months ago, but I happened to be searching this topic. I’m curious if anyone could post the verbiage from the RHO manual.

FWIW, I’ve been running 87 in my 5.7 Hemi since day one of ownership and I’m at 100k mi with no fuel related issues. Our manual recommends 89 for peak performance, but states it will compensate as needed when 87 is used. I wonder if RHO has similar language for 91 / 89.

I’m genuinely curious what performance difference there is between 91 and 89 octane, in terms of power output and mileage. Is it measurable and can the driver perceive it?

As for here, premium is about 25% higher cost than regular. Not a huge issue but definitely adds up as a daily driver averaging 20k miles per year. Again, not here on a RHO forum to complain about gas prices, just data.

Here’s the page from my Hemi manual:

The language from the RHO manual was shown in post #26. Here it is again though. 91 octane os “required”.

I don’t know where I could get 91 in my area. It’s all 93 at the places I go.

91 plus. 93 is even better

How long will you run it till you get the feedback and specs back from the manufacturer?

@eltaco You are definitely not buying this truck to save money/ gas mileage etc. It requires minimum 91 octane. its running 28lbs of BOOST at full throttle which was unheard of just a few years ago. Dont risk damaging it but running less than required.

I'll be running it for the foreseeable future, have no plans on removing it. Ill be sending in review to them next week and give them updates when I can and plan on running it against a friends TRX. :)

Will you be posting your thoughts here or have you already? Just curious to read about the tuner.

I have no choice up here in AK. But what I will say is between running 91+ in the states driving it here and 90 up here, haven’t noticed any power difference. Of course it’s only 1 octane so idk if I would see much difference. But I completely agree with you. My truck will never see less than 90, unless it’s some type of fuel emergency or something. I also only use chevron or shell. I like their additives.

So true. Time to stop acting like poor college kids scrounging for gas money. If you want to cheap out on the fuel, should have stopped at the Kia dealership.
My Kia requires premium 😂

So, I just talked with an employee of a local dealership here in AK. he assured me that running 90 octane will not harm the engine or void any warranties. People have TRXs here and 90 is the highest we go. I cannot speak on 87 other than what was previously mentioned where an engineer was interviewed and quoted as saying the truck will run on 87. But in that case, there is a very real chance of loss of performance. how much I could not say.
