Reverse lift…who’s done one?

I only like the hot rod rake on my hot rods so I cut 1 coil and it dropped the rear just under 2” and now it’s only 1/2” taller on the rear. I built my own air bag system that does not interfere with the suspension travel so towing is no problem,

I have been planning to drop the rear just a touch with a spring trim... not quite a full coil though. I need to measure but I do not have over 2" rake stock. Looks like 1.5 to 1.75" to me. I was thinking a half coil would be plenty and firm it up a little also. Does it have to be a full coil to seat correctly at the top?

Why do you think by removing a part of your spring it will be firmer ?? I'm confused :D

So you won’t be getting air then as you don’t want the spring to fall out unless you put limiting straps on the axle.

No air with this deal as I save that for 2 wheels and a handful of throttle. I have this truck for a commute on a 2 lane very rough twisty mountain road and winter snow. Im having a blast with this thing and its the only truck I’ve ever owned that does not step out on the tight turns and that includes my highly modded SRT jeep!

Progressive springs are wound that way. Usually top coils are softer stage leading to firmer stages below. So by losing some of the softer stage at the top the blended compression rate is higher tension. It’s subtle but you can tell.

I'm sorry, but you are NOT gonna notice a half of a coil missing besides the height. These springs are not that progressively wound to notice that !! Maybe in your head, but not in the ride !! :ROFLMAO: Springs are engineered to do certain things and by modifying that yourself you are just ruining what has been built in to them ! Just for safty reasons you should not be telling people to do things like this !

So every aspect of your truck is as it rolled off the assembly line? Sounds boring.
I understand your point, but by that logic no one should modify anything on a vehicle because it was “engineered that way” from the factory. Yet entire industries exist around lowering springs, lift springs, suspension tuning, exhaust components, intakes, tuners, etc that change how a vehicle rides, handles and performs different from factory design.

Cutting a portion of a coil to slightly adjust ride height isn’t new or reckless. It’s been done in motorsports, hot rods, and trucks for decades. When done correctly, the key is making small changes, measuring results, and staying within a reasonable operating range.

Not sure what "safty" is but, I’m not telling anyone what they should do. I’m sharing what I’m doing on my truck. Kinda the point of forums: sharing actual results so people can make their own decisions. If someone wants factory, keep it factory. If someone wants to modify and tune their truck to their preference, that’s their choice.

No, its leveled, with new springs that were built to do just that, not hacked by Joe shmo to do something there not designed to do! And if you don't understand what safty is then that explains a lot !! I guess your perfect and never misspelled a word before ???

If I RE-design it to do "just that" then that's what they're (short for they are) then built to do. I've custom built lots of race cars, street cars and classics - a small spring trim will do no harm. I appreciate your concern for my truck and well being. When lengthening the front suspension of these trucks the CV axles are placed at an angle that is not ideal and leads to higher incidence of failure... so I'd prefer not to add lift to the front and can get the same visual effect with a nearly 1" rear drop and avoid that.

And sure: like everyone says, "safty" first lol. No I am not perfect, but also "you're" (short for you are).
