What do you think about this truck as a technical trail rig? Not rockcrawl like the rubicon. But slow whooped out off camber twisty turn type trails? Got some pics?

I’ve taken mine on various intermediate level mountain trails here in Colorado. Poke around the forum and others have reports of taking them on similar. The limiting factor really is the width. At 88 inches wide, she’s a big girl but that’s a big reason why the RHO looks so awesome and drives fantastic at high speed.

The other downside to technical trails is the long wheelbase. The RHO’s breakover angle is 22 degrees compare to ~26 for a Sasquatch package Bronco and 27 for a Wrangler Runicon X. Putting 37” tires will help, but I haven’t gone down that road yet.

There are many Jeep trails I can’t and/or won’t take my RHO because of those reasons. Now, I have been on trails and experienced 15-20 degree angles up/down and 5-10 degrees off camber (it feels like more than it is) without issue. But I also wasn’t on a shelf road with a 300 foot drop!

For 95% of what I do, the RHO is perfect. As we know, the RHO/TRX are Baja trucks meant to fly over rough terrain and make heroic jumps at 100+ MPH. It’s a great daily and long-range highway champ. I’m sure there’s someone out there who has done the Rubicon trail with their RHO but Jeep trails are for Jeeps (and Broncos) in my humble opinion. I’m considering getting a used Wrangler or Bronco for the 10% of time I want to take a more challenging trail.

Here are some pics of where I’ve been with my RHO, unfortunately these are the destinations and not on-the-trail getting there. It can handle intermediate stuff well, I just haven’t pushed it super hard yet.

That looks like fun I have a jeep rubicon but i rarely get to use it to anywhere near its potential. Side hills with whoops I have been at 28 degrees climbing at about 30 degrees.

But from what I can tell from research the rho can easily handle that.
What is the steepest climb you have tried?

bUt. it is too small for me now and 90% of. what I do is on road. It's the "I wonder where that road goes ?" that, I think about

I feel you. I haven’t kept track of the angles until recently when I discovered the Off Road menu option.

So, I’d say the steepest was 25 degrees. But I’ve got time to beat that!

“Jeep trail” is a colloquial term (apologies for using a 4 syllable word!) to describe tighter technical trails.

I’d rank Black Bear Pass, T-33, Schofield Pass, and Red Cone as better suited to narrower rigs with shorter wheelbases - Wranglers, Broncos, Gladiators. I’m sure better and more experienced drivers can run a rig the size of an RHO, Power Wagon, or F-150 Raptor up those. That ain’t me.

I did Imogene pass, Cinnamon Pass, Engineer Pass, Yankee Boy Basin in July. All of it was fine but did drag the skids and my side steps on quite a few rocks. Got some nice souvenirs on my wheels too.

The only one that scared the piss out of me was Imogene because of the narrow shelf roads with huge drops. The RHO barely fit on sections of the switchbacks going down into telluride from the summit. An experience for sure!

Most of those are solid trails 95% of RHO owners will never come close to driving. I live in Durango so they’re in my “backyard.” So far I’ve only been up to Animas Forks in my RHO but I’m sure I’ll get all of those in the next year or so.

Make sure you have company to have a spotter.

There is video somewhere on you tube of a 2500 power wagon on 35s doing black bear pass and the steps. He is with a group and has a spotter. He did fine. Just the switchbacks caused him to do a bit more work
I think the rho could do it. Stock. And with. 37s and winch. It would be easier. I wonder how much a winch would. Affect the trucks ride and handling?
I think my dream build would be be 2inch lift. 37s. Winch rock slider rails And sunroof.

A red one? I’ve seen it. Keep in mind the RHO is 8 inches wider than the PW.

A RHO can definitely do Black Bear. I’m not saying it will be enjoyable on the switchbacks but it’s definitely doable if you have a bit of experience.

Chinns Lake is pretty cool. Just take the Saint Mary’s Glacier exit. Use OnX to get to it. Not hard.

Montezuma near Keystone is a hub for several trails and where I’ve spent most of my time so far - Webster Pass, Saints John, and Red Cone. Full disclosure - I haven’t done Red Cone. Would want something narrower.

Took mine out to Sedona and finally got to mess with Rock Mode. Honestly worked great. Trail wasn’t anything crazy, just needed 4x4 and some clearance, but the truck handled it easy.
