Morning Y’all!

I was heading to the dealership to address the multiple QC issues and noticed, regardless of speed it hangs out in 7th gear unless I manually put it in 8th.

Anyone else notice this?

Yup.

It also hangs in 6th if tranny is in Sport mode. I’ve noticed this behavior on one of the YouTuber’s trucks, too.

I figured it was programmed that way to avoid lugging, which can be especially troublesome to engine components during break-in.

Since I now have 1200+ miles, I don’t think the programming is going to change with miles. I’ve been manually bumping it to 8th & notice fuel economy improves significantly.

As it stands, I think this tranny is programmed to stay in a lower gear or two to avoid hunting between gears & the drivability issues that come with it. Off boost, the Hurricane is a bit soft.

Thanks!! Yes I wonder if anyone else has noticed this and how it can improve fuel economy from what people are currently getting. At least on my dash it doesnt show what gear I am in unless I force it into 8th.

Bump your shift lever to the left & your current gear will display.

To me, the best driving dynamics (at least for off-road) come in Baja mode. This mode REALLY hangs on to the lower gears. I believe it won’t shift until you hit 4500 RPMs.

So, I select Baja & drive it like a manual. Things can get a bit busy off-road since, wheel slippage can result in redline hits super fast. On-road, it’s easier but still takes more effort than plain old “Drive”. Depends on my mood.

mine goes into 8th no problem, but it usually isn't until well above 65 and minimal load on the engine. I think the trans tuning wants to avoid lugging the engine in 8th, which I actually love. Coming form a 340i with the zf, it wants to get up to 8th gear much faster than I want it to and often would find myself manually downshifting with the paddles. I like the trans tune in this truck.

There are settings to display what gear you're in, I have it on the heads up display, as well as the dash itself.

When I leveled my ram BTS and put 35s on I never seen it in 8th great and barely ever saw 15+ mpg 😁

You can actually program different info to be displayed at the four corners of the dashboard. If I remember I have MPG, Temperature, gear and something else.
