Turbo/wastegate actuator rattle!

I’m not hearing anything 🤷🏼‍♂️
Focus on the 9-18 second mark of the video - it comes and goes twice. If it were only at start up it probably wouldn't bother me, but it does it at slow speeds as well. The pitch sounds similar to a squeaky belt or bad wheel bearing when cruising thru the neighborhood.

I played it over my Bluetooth speaker and can slightly hear it better, so in the cabinets annoying as shit?

The noise probably wouldn't bother your average consumer, but for the majority of the users/enthusiast in this forum... Yes

Mine has both noises on start up. The high pitch noise from the video, but also a rattle like something is coming apart. Lol

I’m sill in the “testing phase” of trying to solve the waste gate rattle, but so far I’ve been able to eliminate about 90% of it. Once I get it perfected I will post details.

Is this squeaky sound at the 9-20 sec of the video what yall are hearing?
I have been remote starting my truck more lately so I guess I didn't notice or hear it from inside before. I always hear this at start up, and when driving with the windows down in the ~1700rpm range

Almost sounds like air or a leak, make sure the 3 clamps on the turbos are sealing

The rattle is usually the exhaust valve. It sounds closer to the engine than it actually is.

I kinda thought that as well. It does sound more prominent in the middle of the truck and less noisy as it gets to operating temp

100%. I chased mine down to that janky little exhaust ‘valve’. What a great piece of 1960’s engineering. FFS 🤦🏻‍♂️

I wonder what a muffler shop would charge for the ol' chop and swap. Might be worth getting that little MRT exhaust at that point.
I pegged mine open and only cost is 4 band clamps. My GMC had them also and I had done the same on that for a bit more exhaust note and zero rattle. Can also go back to stock anytime

Great idea. I want to pull the trigger on the MRT Trail rated conversion kit. I figure for $199 bucks, if it sucks I can just take it back off.

I believe that 'kit' only works if you've already purchased/installed the $450 MRT Extreme Mid Pipe kit, it converts it to the Trail Rated performance sound.

Oh. Well, that makes more sense now.

How did you go about doing this? Any write up?
Page 1 I go over it. It is the same exact thing for GMC/Chevy and you will find way more about doing it looking it up that way. Here is one to get you headed in the right direction.
This mod gets rid of the rattle and gives a noticeable increase in exhaust sound under low to mid rpm’s.

From an engineering standpoint, what would've been the rationale for putting this valve in place to begin with?

Obviously a valve costs more than not a valve so there's some perceived benefit here.

I always like to understand the reasoning even if the consensus is that it's a bad idea/not necessary.

Drone is the main reason I would assume at low speeds. I know for the GMC it was to reduce the choppy helicopter noise when it dropped cylinders
