I originally ordered an RHO from Mark Dodge but it took so long for anything to happen, I changed my mind after all of the negative experiences I read about. There was always the price, too - just seemed like a lot of money, even with the Mark discount.

Since then, I've side-eyed a few RHOs but realized what they do really isn't for me - maybe most owners jump dunes but it's just not my groove. After getting bait-and-switched, on an RHO, by a dealer in Sunnyside, WA, I went home and had a look at the local dealer's web page. For whatever reason, the Rebel caught my eye. I'm generally the guy that opts for the most horsepower available but, given the truck's content as well as the price (15K off MSRP) I had to look. Needless to say, I'm now happily looking at my new Rebel in the driveway. Is it RHO-fast? Nope, but it's as smooth, comfortable and powerful as any non-modded diesel or Syclone I've had. I can see a JB4 in it's S.O. future but I love that it happily sips 87, especially since 83 isn't available where I live.

The purpose of this post has nothing to do with the above - consider that background. As I drive the Rebel over the many two-lane back roads of the farming community in which I live, I've noticed how much wider it seems than the GMC Denali truck that it's replacing. I've got almost 50 years of driving under my belt but crossing narrow bridges with on-coming traffic seems a little dodgy - the GMC never felt that way. Given that the RHO is, what, six inches wider, does that ever cause an ass-clench situation for you RHO owners?

Honestly, yes, but you have to understand I live in East Tennessee. There are roads here that have two-way traffic that are only 12 feet from edge to edge and sometimes less. No they don’t have a lot of traffic and no, I’m not on them very often but every now and then you do have to back up on a narrow windy twist Road until you can find enough dirt on both sides for two vehicles to pass each other. But on a 12 foot wide road the rebel’s and the Denali are not gonna be any different. That’s just east Tennessee and I’m sure a whole lot of other places. The RHO is skinny compared to my Dually and it’s been there too.

I only notice it when I shoehorn it into the garage next to my wife’s SUV that takes up more room than it should.

I have an RHO and my wife has a Rebel. There’s nothing wrong with the Rebel, but they are definitely not the same. Once you get used to the width you never really notice it.

Nope...and I just spent the last 13 years driving a Honda Accord. I think my years driving a Humvee as an Army MP might have helped. lol. Parking is a little tricky, but I just need to get used to it...I think I would have had this problem going from my sedan to any full size truck.

The RHO is 8 inches wider than the average 1500 at 88 inches. A standard lane of traffic is 12 feet wide, 96 inches, so really just 4 inches on either side. I've never had any issues with it to be honest and my wife wouldn't drive it on a bet so no problems at my house. I find it more of an issue in crowded parking lots as it fills the whole space and the turning circle ain't the greatest.

Yes, the truck is only 6"s wider, so if you can't handle 3"s aside well.

I spent 17 years driving large construction vehicles, like extended vans, in Milwaukee's inner city. I drove them in snowstorms and all sorts of other weather, and they weren't much different width-wise. I picked mine up around 7 hours from my house because I wanted one of the last remaining Canyon Lake RHOs, and by the time I got home, I was completely used to the size. The RHO handles really nicely for how big it is.

Not really for me just driving on the roads, but occasionally in tight parking garages. I have never had a Chevy or GMC truck, but I didn’t notice the Ram any wider when I switched from Ford back in 2018. I’ve had a Laramie and a Longhorn, the RHO is my first wide body. Glad you are liking the Rebel!
