I, like many others on this forum, have struggled with unreliable CarPlay functionality on wireless and wired connections. My truck, a late December 2025 build, would start the wireless connection about 75% of the time within the first 15 seconds or so. Sometimes, it would take 1-2 minutes. Other times, it wouldn't start at all, necessitating volume+tune restart of Uconnect and a restart of my iPhone 17 Pro Max. Accompanying this connection madness were occasional audio dropouts at any audio quality through Apple Music, from high efficiency to Hi-Res Lossless.

While I still loved my truck, these electronic gremlins tempered my enthusiasm. How could it be the same company that created the overall package stumble so badly in the 2020s when CarPlay is a standard and expected feature, worsened by staring at the primitive Uconnect interface while CarPlay remained unavailable at times?

Recently, I took my truck in for the various recalls we've all been talking about. As part of the digital rear camera fix, they updated my Uconnect version from U39 to U42. Several glitches were fixed and CarPlay did start faster when it worked, but within a day of the update the same old slow or no start issues came back. So I tried disconnecting the battery and a factory reset of Uconnect. No dice.

I had a hunch that iOS was still part of the issue, given the widespread complaints of wireless CarPlay problems across multiple brands, foreign and domestic, on the various forums. And, Apple highlighted a focus on improved wireless CarPlay reliability when it announced iOS 27 in June. So, I installed the iOS Public Beta on Monday. Suddenly, CarPlay started reliably every single time, whether I was starting from an overnight rest or a 5 minute errand stop. No audio dropouts. Connection time is generally about 5 seconds, reliably. I'm shocked at how well it works. I have been through at least 30-40 startups and I haven't had a single issue, as compared to the near daily problems with U39 and iOS 26.

Bottom line: the combination of the Uconnect update and the new iOS 27 (that is out of beta in a few weeks) appears to have solved my issues. Housekeeping: I don't use a WiFi hotspot in the truck, I do have WiFi enabled for software updates, and I do not have more than one phone connected (but those features never affected operation under the old Uconnect/iOS versions anyway).

Did your U42 update remove the light/dark theme option?
It sure did! For some, dark only + improved CarPlay wasn't the best trade

However, when I first picked up my truck, I had "auto" light/dark setting enabled. Driving down a tree lined road near dusk would cause the display to erratically flip back and forth between light and dark and cache/slow any touch inputs. It was really odd behavior. So I wonder if that is part of the issue they are trying to address with the change.

While I never really had any CarPlay issues, I did prefer the light during the day/dark at night.

I did notice some light/dark pingponging issues like you described during the early morning hours that were annoying but at this point as long as everyone is getting their connectivity issues sorted out, I'm good with it and we'll see where they go from here.

What type of phone do you have and what OS version are you running?

It's a mystery how one person with an iPhone 17 has issues and another does not (even with similar software versions). I suspect that even those that haven't had issues, like yourself, will see faster connections when upgrading to iOS 27

Same here. I’ve been on the iOS 27 beta for a few weeks now and after the rt5 OTA update to u42 CarPlay connects every single time. Now if I could only get the digital key tile to show up I’d be happy.

Outstanding, glad to read that we're having a similar experience. I had to get Stellantis executive relations involved to obtain the digital key. Took a few weeks of trading calls, but one day, the tile showed up without any obvious OTA update. I just had to log out and log back in to the RAM app.

17 Pro on 26.6.1. Never had connection issues since day one. Only time I really had problems ever were during pending uconnect updates.

Really hoping that works. I'm already on 42. I had hopes for the turn off the two phone option but it got all squirrely on me today and would not connect (actually it connected and then disconnected itself) and then when I did the soft reset it changed my drive mode to mud/sand which was really weird. Ended up doing the factory reset this evening so we'll see how that works. May download the 27 beta if it gets out of sorts again.

Public beta 6 is really solid. Usually the September builds are near the final code. There’s at least two of us on this thread for which iOS 27 fixes CarPlay completely.

Did you have any issues with other apps with the Beta?
