So I’ve had my truck two months, and I keep it spotless. However, I guess the sun didn’t hit it just right until today, and I saw all this crap at the bottom of my driver’s side passenger door, and a little bit on the driver’s door bottom. On the corner of the cab behind the rear passenger door, it even looks like some tape or something was there. You can only see this when the sun hits it just right. That’s why I missed it for all this time. I’m pissed. It’s not like this on the passenger side. I checked for overspray in case it was repainted or something, and I can’t feel anything out of the ordinary anywhere. It just looks like the paint has faded or something. Of course I see it on a Friday evening, like most things that happen on a Friday evening where you have to sit on it all weekend until dealership is open. Only can see it like this with flashlight or sunshine. And ideas ??

If you have SPAAK and CarPlay be thankful rhe stellantis gods looked kindly upon you.

Live with it as the next truck will likely be worse.

Yes the lower paint was likely applied by this person…I think most members have these “blemishes” some worse than others.

take it to be ceramic coated. they will do paint correction and all will be good.

I did. They said it’s thin paint. Can’t correct it. I’m seriously thinking about getting it coated with a bed liner like rhino liner or a line X

This doesn't relieve the SHAP plant human inspectors of their responsibility; see 10:40 in the video for paint process info.

Yes…the primary color is painted by robots but the lower color is painted by man. Hence all the issues and terrible quality across the board.

How else does the lower portion of the bed not get painted?

If I added up every quality issue on every car I’ve ever owned (30+ vehicles) I don’t think it would equal the number and magnitude of the troubles we’re seeing with these trucks.

First you say they are not painted by machines, then you say only the lower panel is painted by humans. The amount of errors created by humans painting on such a large scale would be extremely cost prohibitive. On top of that no auto manufacturer want the liability of humans painting on that scale. There’s a saying in the automotive world, painters die. That bed panel not being painted is the result of mistakenly being put into the wrong assembly line as there are other trucks that do not get the black stripe and then being missed at final inspection by humans.
Start at the 7:28 mark.

The Factory Painting Process
    • Robotic Spraying: The actual application of the primer, base coats, and clear coats is handled entirely by programmed automated robotic arms. They use high-speed rotary atomizers to distribute paint evenly across the metal body.
    • Human Masking: For a traditional two-tone look (where the lower rocker panels or trim feature a contrasting color), human workers are typically responsible for the labor-intensive masking and taping process. After the first main color is sprayed and cured, workers precisely apply automotive tape and protective paper along the body lines before sending the truck back through the booth for the second color.
    • Final Inspection: Human technicians perform the quality control checks, inspecting the finished surface under special lights and fixing minor flaws or dust nibs by hand.

That looks like shit. It's obvious that's from the factory. Ram should cover a respray under warranty.

Well, just as I knew it, Ram says that lower portion is gonna need to be repainted. However, talking to the body shops, they all say that they can’t paint just the black part at the bottom. They have to paint my entire damn door! Well, not paint the top part white, but clear coat the entire door and they can’t guarantee it will match the factory orange peel texture 😆. In other words, their paint may come out looking smooth like it should’ve been from the start on these trucks. So my only option is to live with it or take a chance on it showing evidence of being painted if I ever trade it. I may see if Ram will just do something like throw in free lifetime oil changes or some kind of shit in lieu of getting it painted. I swear I can’t catch a break in any manufacturer if it ain’t Chevrolet’s blowing up, it’s the paint fucked up on these trucks.

Wrap it.
