I don’t disagree with you at all. I see a lot of “you paid $80k for a truck and can’t afford $XXX for this accessory?”

First off - pretty much nobody paid sticker for their truck around here 😂

Secondly, when did the cost of my truck factor into whether or not I can make sense of $200 black lug nuts, $2-3k exhausts, or $350 air filters? 😂

I’m interested in going to a long-term use cleanable filter at some point, especially if the cost is roughly equal to the stock replaceable one.
 
The cost of the filter is not much if you want to increase the turbo noises lol. If that’s not a big deal, don’t spend the money then. If you care that much, drop the money. Simple as that.

Totally agree. The main reason I got back into making parts is because I was seeing companies charging $220+ just for a tube, then throwing in an AFE filter and calling it a $500+ intake. I know I’m offering a similar tube, but at the very least I want people to save some money and not get ripped off. I care about the community because I’m part of it too.

Yeah, the reusable ones are pricey up front, but they pay off fast. The OEM filter is $238 a pop—so replacing it 3 times = $238 × 3 = $714.

Now take a $300 reusable filter. Use it 3 times and that’s basically $300 ÷ 3 = $100 per use.

So yeah, $300 sounds crazy at first—but compared to dropping $714 on OEM filters, it actually saves you money.

I was waiting for S&B but the Bwoody pipe connected to the stock air box plus AFE Pro5R filter is probably just as good, if not better than what S&B would come out with.

Thats basically wha i did, or doing. I installed the pipe (not bwoody) just waiting to get the filter from AFE. They are currently on backorder 3-5 weeks. Smh

Okay, I'm a n00b to high-performance air flow mods for sports trucks.

My experience was with V-8 Mustangs, which ended around 2013, so I know what was best back then is probably antique by now.

Is the BWoody Intake Tube just an improvement in sound, or does it potentially increase HP due to being more rigid than the stock plastic intake?

On the BWoody website, they offer a Velocity Stack add-on. What is this/what does it do?

I put one on order, as well, and was quoted 4wks. I’ll update when I get a chance to try it out!

The results I’ve heard so far aren’t very enticing. I’m going to leave my intake tube as is, with a new filter.

I've never had a vehicle where most of the "performance mods" don't seem to improve performance...

The math ain't mathing....

All of them seem to add as much performance as pinstripes and a generic trunk wing from AutoZone, on a '98 Civic...

I think that speaks to the job these engineers did on this truck. Usually we complain that you have to upgrade vehicles for more performance, it's actually refreshing that they did it from the factory already.
 
Well, my order got pushed back to October, so I cancelled and looking for one in stock somewhere.

Also got me thinking… the 5R is listed for street and track use. Any concerns from gravel road dust? I don’t do much hardcore off-roading these days, but I do hit gravel roads every week or two.
 
Haven’t seen mention of this , I have the afe filter and a color stain at the lower portion of the afe made me notice it leaves a hole into the airbox that is blocked with the factory filter . If playing in the water could be troublesome.
 
Just received my aFe filter (thanks Chris!) and installed it.

My goal was really to see if the added filter pleating would generate more intake sound, but also to move to a reusable filter.

As far as sound is concerned, I maybe hear a bit more turbo spool up, but it’s really not significant. Just sounds like a tiny bit more wind noise as I speed up, and it’s more noticeable if I’m in a higher gear in low RPMs and I mash on the throttle.

JMO, but not worth the swap if you’re purely looking for change in intake sound, but looks to be a nice filter design if you’re looking for a reusable filter option. I’m pleased with it.

reusability is is a good point (y) if you drive a lot it will definitely be cheaper in long run.. also these filters have be washed and oiled more often than the non-reusable ones, this oil used to damage the MAF sensor that sits right behind it (not sure if the MAF design now prevents it), oil gets in the charge and intake system.. I just don't like those :D
