Apple CarPlay

How long did you leave your truck alone after not selecting an update option, locking the doors, and keyfob out of range? My truck was off and locked for about ten minutes while at the gas station; keyfob out of range for about half the time. When I started it again, the UConnect system operated normally.
I'm not sure I understand the question. If you're asking whether I walked away from the truck while it still thought ACC power was on and the radio was playing...I did not.

Understood. Anecdotal evidence suggests the update question times out if not started/rescheduled and left alone for 5 - 10 minutes.

Yeah maybe it does. I've seen more evidence that the batteries die faster than that so I wasn't risking it haha

Well more Apple CarPlay woes....
So my RHO has wanted updates twice in the last few days. I did them.
My iPhone went to 18.4.1
Everything was still working - yesterday I drove to work, the Apple CarPlay was working great. I left work, ran to a PC parts store in Richardson, worked there and back. I then fired up the truck to go home - nothing, nada, no music, no Apple CarPlay, no nothing.
I deleted the profile, reconnected - wired does not work.
I have done the "Hold the button in until it resets" thing several times. No change.
I did the bluetooth thing - it connected, said I could press the center button thing on the steering wheel to get Siri. BUT - it was not Apple CarPlay running. Plugging in didnt work, bluetooth was the only way. I drove home with my iPhone playing, not connected to the sound system.
I got home, several deletes and reconnects, even changed USB to Lightning conector cables - nothing worked. Ended up doing the Bluetooth thing and figured it would work "well enough" until something got fixed.
Driving to work last night, some songs would play, it would go to the next song in the playlist - would not play. I hit next, that would play, the next would not, I hit next, it wouldnt play, I hit next, and that would play. No apparent reason why. No Apple CarPlay at all.

Apple CarPlay was at one time, reliable no matter what vehicle I got it. I would just plug in and go - now, what a friggin nightmare.

@FrankNSteinPC, Uconnect in my RHO is slower than on the 12” Uconnect I had in my PW. I only have experience with the 14.4” in 2 different RHOs. The first RHO I looked at, which was fresh off the truck, was so slow I didn’t think it recognized it when I touched the screen. The one in my truck isn’t anywhere near as slow 🤷🏻‍♂️. Surprisingly inconsistent.

Something I’ve found aggravating about CarPlay is constantly being asked if I want to let my wife’s iPhone be connected via CarPlay when it’s plugged in charging. She has to turn off CarPlay on her phone to make it stop.
There's a setting that allows dual phone connections. Maybe try turning that off?

Oh so you were at MicroCenter? Spent lots of money there a couple months ago!

In my experience in many different vehicles, all of these issues share one commonality.....Apple. It's a CarPlay issue that I've had in....at least 7-8 vehicles over the past few years. And it seems with each new iOS update, it gets more fucked up and unreliable. As much as I love the functionality of CarPlay (when it's working properly) it's really a shitty offering from Apple considering most everything else they do is flawlessly functional. EVERY issue mentioned here I've experienced in other vehicles, other brands. So while yes some of this may be Stellantis equipment issues, I'd venture to say more confidently that it's likely Apple at fault.

If you are in the east Dallas area, yeah, Microcenter is the place now that Fry's is gone. Yes, I drove my Ram to go buy some RAM :ROFLMAO: for my hardware test systems.

100% agree on all you said about Apple and CarPlay....

I am about to go try the advice given by Ram CS when I contacted them via Chat. I'll give feedback if it worked.
Here is the advice given:
1. First, try turning your phone off and then back on. This simple step often resolves connectivity issues.
2. Ensure that your iPhone is compatible (8 or newer) and that Siri is enabled in your phone's settings.
3. Check if you can connect to CarPlay via USB by using an official Apple Lightning cable and connecting it to the USB port in your vehicle.
4. If you're using wireless CarPlay, make sure your phone has both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth enabled.
5. On your phone, go to Settings > General > CarPlay, and check if your vehicle is listed. If it is, tap "Forget This Car" and set up CarPlay again.
6. Restart your vehicle's infotainment system by turning it off, opening and closing the driver's door, and then starting it again.

I did find that I had several vehicles listed under CarPlay within settings on my iPhone, including five entries for my previous F-150. So, clearing them out may help. I also shut down and restarted the iPhone. I always use certified Apple Lightning to USB cables, so that's not my issue. I keep several in my truck just in case it becomes one. So going to try these other options. I'll let you all know if I find the right combo.

My observation on CarPlay is that it’s buggy / volatile overall. Wirelessly or plugged in.

In two of our cars (yr 2024 & 2025) it will run flawlessly sometimes and then drop in and out and drive you crazy other times. And I have done what many suggest in terms of reinstall / restart which sort of works. Sometimes re - logging in to the phone helps too.

The current plan is to be patient - generally just waiting seems to work on both cars and it pairs up and off we go.

Having the same experience on the wireless charging in both cars too. In and out. I find the ram does better when I take the otter box off it or wiggle it around. But then I leave it and look down and the light is blue!

First world problems ,

This worked like a charm:

On your phone, go to Settings > General > CarPlay, and check if your vehicle is listed. If it is, tap "Forget This Car" and set up CarPlay again.

I plugged it in, U-Connect asked if I wanted to connect, I said wired only and everything started working great. 👍🏻

Glad you got it working! I was patiently reading all the replies to see if you tried that. IME, when nothing else works, I remove the profile and add it back.

Crazy - I literally had to do it again after three successful trips without issue, then bam! It stopped working. Cleared CarPlay UConnect entry, worked perfectly again…

Everytime I see someone with an iPhone complaining about CarPlay. 🤣🤣

Only issues I noticed a few times with Apple CarPlay is a song would cut out for like 1/2 a second and then continue. Not sure what that’s about.

Does it occasionally on Android too...I believe it's caused by power line interference. There are a few spots that I drive regularly where it acts up every single time.

I’ve noticed that as well which is an issue I didn’t have in my Power Wagon with the 12” screen/Uconnect 5.

Lmfao. Idk wtf is going on with my android auto. Still have tried everything to no avail. Phone is just slower than an original iPhone when connected to the truck and skips while playing songs. Even plugged in with a wire gives me identical results. Apparently iPhone or android can have issues.

Just gives me a reason to not use my phone while driving but annoying as hell when im trying to take a video of something cool and the phone can't even do that. I don't feel like resetting my phone. Im going to try and re download android auto.

We should change this thread to "why is my $1500 phone not working with my $80k truck" lol. Fml first world problems.

2 options, delete data and cache for the app, make sure battery is unrestricted as well...or backup phone and hard reset.

thanks mr swift! much appreciated brother. battery is unrestricted, i just deleted data and cache. ill go drive the truck and see. last option is factory reset which i dont want to do since it takes like 4 hours to get all my data back on the phone!

So finally got my wireless carplay to work on my iphone 12 at 1410 miles. It has always worked plugged in. So what I did(which I never done before) Iphone settings-general-carplay-then into your uconnect connection then turn on Carplay to green. Now works great.

I have a more important question.. we got bigger screen but the bottom 2 inches is used to turn on and off parking sensors??? That’s it? No way to get rid of that? I’d rather have cooled seat buttons there than parking sensors. Who touches those that often.
