Body Shop Shenanigans

I have the newest version of the app and have none of these features. No “all trips” option anywhere. No driver alerts. Can you share some screen shots please? Is this from some paid subscription upgrade possibly?

This is a typical trip log

Where do you see this in your Ram app? This is what my app (most current version) displays when I launch it…no option to access anything you’re referencing.
This is what mine shows as well.

If you scroll down on that page you should see an “All Trips” section where you can access trip
Logs. Scroll further down and you should see a section for Driver Alerts. If not, perhaps its subscription only.

While I’m thinking of it, can anyone verify whether the dealer service group can see if Launch Control has ever been enabled? @AnthonyRI

Curious what you guys would do in my situation. Truck has been at the body shop for 3 months. I touched base with them about 2 weeks ago where they informed me the main work is done and it’s time to reassemble the accessories (bed cover, side step, misc stuff. Yesterday I receive alerts via the RAM app stating a “Hard Acceleration” was detected. The truck was driven 2 miles to a local auto maintenance shop. 10 mins later I receive 2 additional “Hard Acceleration” alerts that occurred in the street out front of the auto maintenance shop. Then I receive a 4th driving it back to the body shop. Can you guys think of any logical/mechanical related reason why one would need to do this? If it was simply a joy ride, why take it to a maintenance shop? My plan is to email my contact at the body shop asking for a status update. I wish the app would record if launch control was initiated. Curious how you guys would handle this situation?
Outside of bedding new brakes for hard deceleration but accel I cant think of a single reason. Can't think of a single reason why a body shop would do any of that though. I'd be pissed.

I’ve had two alerts.

One was for “excessive cornering speed” or something like that. I was going around a turn leading to a highway on-ramp, nothing crazy. But I still got a “driving event” alert.

When my truck was at the dealer for something that would have required hard acceleration to diagnose, I got an “hard acceleration” alert or something like that. Anyway, my service advisor told me that any tech test drives that involve aggressive driving to diagnose, the service manager always accompanies the tech. So, I shouldn’t worry that my truck is being needlessly beaten upon.

In the OP’s case, I’d guess some porters were having a little fun. Will a couple full-throttle hits cause any real harm? Not saying it’s right, but…

Had a friend who was a “driver”. He always bought used. I said, “Aren’t you afraid somebody beat the crap out of it before you bought it?” He said, “Nobody is gonna beat on it worse than me, so I’m good.” He was right. His cars were always “well used & abused” when he traded them.

On a related note…my dad bought two body shops in his retirement. This was in the 80s.

Had a guy come into the shop saying he really needed his repaired car back because his wife was pregnant & expecting. He had some other stories about his motivation for needing the car back, but they “felt” like bullshit.

He also claimed he would bring his $2100 insurance check to us as soon as it arrived. My dad was a softy & agreed as long as he paid his $500 deductible. He begged & pleaded hardship, but finally agreed to go get the deductible $$ from his bank.

When he left, I asked the secretary to call the insurance company for an ETA on the check. They said it had already been mailed & cashed several days earlier.

I had the shop manager get the guy’s Chevy Beretta (old guys will remember it…sporty 2-door), so I could test drive it to be sure it was “roadworthy” for transporting this guy’s wife & new baby. Thank God they hadn’t invented these electronic nannies yet, is all I will say. And yes, that car did things that GM chassis engineers would never have imagined it would do outside of a Looney Tunes cartoon!

Your service advisor communicated if/when that test drive would take place. That should be the standard. No communication was given by the body shop notifying me the truck had to leave their facility.

As for beating on it, I don’t treat my possessions in such way (well mostly). However, as the one paying $80K, I and I alone reserve that right.

I contacted my advisor at the body shop for an explanation. He simply said he was not the one driving the truck that day. I asked if he could let me know who did, but he was reluctant. I asked if he knew if the truck was up to operating temperature before it went for a spirited excursion to an auto repair shop. He said he didn’t know. So while I hear you that a couple of pulls won’t hurt it, 1) that’s not the point and 2) YES in fact if the engine and trans are cold and you go flooring it 4X (yes 4 notifications), you can indeed harm the powertrain. Want to know a quick way to get leaky seals? Anywho my contact didn’t even offer an apology. I asked WHY the truck left their facility in the first place. His response was that they needed to clear the codes that generated from disconnecting harnesses that went to the bed. I ended with “Well, let me know when you a yours guys are done with her.”
Today I am moaning a little in the break room. Turns out our manager is buddies with the body shop owner. He text him my complaints as well as a screenshot from the app. The owners response was “I drive a Raptor R. If anyone from the shop has the urge to beat on a truck, they can drive mine. We don’t treat customer vehicles like that.” Uummmm…. I look at him and said, do you honestly believe your buddy, the owner, would allow one of his young vehicle porters to take his R for a joy ride? If so I have a learing center to sell you.
Long story short, I reviewed my driving compared to the ones recorded on the 9th. In the past 3 months, I had (1) hard accel event. Within an hour the body shop person scored (4) hard accel events. People have no respect for others things. I hope the truck was up to temp. I hope they didn’t eat Taco Bell in the truck. End of the day what could they offer to make amends?

I would have gone down there ASAP and raised hell and then called the insurance company and let them know they are not going to be the ones finishing the job, Plain and simple and then leave a bad Google review for them.

Chris

Yup. Fuck that place. Expose them.

Best & only thing you can do is write all the negative reviews you can…don’t get wordy…just “I took my truck there for body repairs…got several notifications on my app they were driving my truck aggressively…stay away!”

Of course, any smart business has a service managing Google reviews, so they will get it removed. So find a couple places to expose them. Just keep it concise & factual…no emotions.

If I found that review, I’d never to there.

Oh, even if cold, those full-throttle excursions are unlikely to cause any issues. That’s how some clueless people drive. Car makers know & anticipate such behavior. I know it doesn’t feel good. Get your frustration out as discussed above.

I know this thread got partially hijacked by the discussion about access to trip information and alerts in the Ram app that was made reference to. Many of us, including me, don't see any of this in our apps. Well just off with Ram Care and that is because you have to be subscribed to their service plan for $17.99/month which gives you access to this, plus in vehicle wifi, remote start, etc. Nice lady I spoke to said it is impossible to have access to trip info, alerts, etc. without having an active subscription. So there you have it. Now deciding if it is worth the money...

I subscribe to this and also don't have trips.

Please don't listen to anything Ram tells you. They are hucksters at best.
