Was going to with a buddy but videos online said you need a real wall mounted spring compressor, not the store rental ones.

I had access one but I did not use it, did not want to wait a day. You do not have to compress the spring all that much so I can use see threaded spring dressers with no issues. Getting the top bolt off without the shaft without spinning is the key to the job, I used a quarter inch socket through the center I believe of a 13/16 to hold the shaft while unscrew the nut by hand.
Of course they do make a special tool for that.
