What's new

Google finally rolls out a fix that will hopefully fix Android Auto full screen for RAM?

I work for Google, specifically on AA. It scales automatically to any screen size, and has for quite some time. This is 100% an issue with Uconnect.
Wait what? I thought you’re a retired DJ?

This appears new and not something that has always been supported.

this explains why AA has so many problems. It all makes sense now. Time to tar and feather

My big question is...Why the Fuck does anyone need a 14 inch map???...I am in my 60's and have no issues with a half screen map. Most of us Gen Exers and boomers drove around this country with a folded up paper map....

Agreed, unless I am going somewhere I have never been it is never on.
Paper maps and a really good memory, works every time.

You never used these flip maps from AAA? They were great. It's about maximizing all the available real estate that you have; the more information, the better. You wouldn't buy an 86" TV from Costco and be okay with only using half the screen, would you?

I can't stand Apple phones but when I put Google Maps up with my wife's phone via CarPlay, and it used all of the screen, it became apparent that there is no good reason why Android Auto couldn't do the same thing.

Simply put, if you are going to use a landscape orientation for your physical screen, then a landscape map will work. But if you're going to use a tall 14.5" screen in portrait orientation, then you won't get away with using a landscape-oriented map without people asking the obvious "why?" question. The OEM navigation does this, but there is so little information displayed, it's akin to an Atari 2600 from the 1980's.

I definitely like the large map, I'm driving to many job sites in dense cities, I kinda need to see what's around, where the other streets lead etc. My map is always in satellite mode and it's very easy to navigate based on the type of buildings etc. So for me definitely a plus

Here's the short answer. The direction arrows and the search bar on Android auto cover 30% of the small 7" map. Better answer, because every car in America built after 2024 has full screen maps. Its ridiculous. And carplay is full screen so its definitely possible. Why do people need half the stuff we have in the truck. Your 2010 Toyota will get you from A to B too.

I know I'm in the minority here but I prefer the smaller AA screen because it gives me quick access to my shortcuts beneath it. Also on Waze with the smaller version I don't have to look down toward the bottom of the screen for the Waze traffic alerts - which I do when my wife is riding since i put her in charge of navigation on her iPhone and Carplay

But for me quick access to shortcuts below is the main reason I do not want it to change

After seeing the photo you posted, I don't know if I want full screen AA. I didn't realize I could set it up with all of those shortcuts at the bottom. I'm actually liking the shortcut feature (thank you for unknowingly providing that info). Hopefully if they do full screen AA they come up with some way to implement easy access shortcuts
