K&N 50-1598

No hate here - will you post your baseline dyno numbers for us please (4 wheel or 2 wheel with axles disconnected?)?

Inquiring minds want (NEED!) to know

Thank you!
2wd. I believe stock dyno numbers were around 430hp to the wheel of course

This makes complete sense to me...

...41hp sounded a like a bit much for an air cleaner upgrade, but I prefer the wait and see approach to this stuff.

The non-RHO 1500 derivatives all have closed air boxes. Less restrictive breathing for the engine will add hp.

But the RHO is already a open-airbox, ram-air system. I feel any aftermarket air filter/intake set up might gain 1-5 hp, and could improve the fluid dynamics of the incoming air, but we will never see anything close to the numbers previously mentioned here.
exactly. might not even be worth it for the rho

lol what are you saying. Those numbers were for non rho trims. It still feels and sounds amazing but the numbers were not worth it so back to the drawing board. thats how r&d works.
So wait, you actually mounted it up, ran it, and did a dyno run?

At least get us a sound clip, man!

I could care less about additional HP claims. What I care about is a reusable filter, better sound if it comes with it. I don’t have any expectation of perceivable performance improvements.

haha only have one clip but it was with the stock intake.

It did have a really cool sound but K&N does not develop anything that does not make power.

sounds like they didn't get the bump in power they wanted, but what did the increase end up being?

The only video taken was of the stock intake!?!?

Do you have a copy of the dyno graph?

Need HP AND torque - and where on the RPM range these peaks were. Need to see the entire range please

I dont have the dyno graph for the stock runs. Was not interested on that. Here is a quick clip with everything stock. Nothing really exciting 😅

You don't have either dyno graph?

Having been in R&D much of my career… I have to say this is one of the strangest development processes I’ve encountered.

Bringing an external beta tester in without a NDA, claiming to have dyno sheets with huge gains to share before the engineering team even knows if the prototype fits the truck, and then having said beta tester go to a public forum to say they team is scrapping the concept and going back to the drawing board.

This entire post did more harm to K&N’s brand than it did to add value, and leaves a lot to question in how much confidence to put in the end product overall.

Not that I have a lot of details… it’s just sharing a bit too much about how the sausage is made. Would have been much better off not building hype for a completely underdeveloped product concept.

Don't put words in my mouth please. I never made any claims. I just shared that I was trying out their already launched kit for the regular ram on my rho. I never said those gains would be the same for the rho. I said it sounded and felt good but more tests needed to be done. Again this was not an rho kit.

Couldn't agree more, on top of that, there's no way someone would go there waiting for a new intake and only film the stock intake run or have no idea what the numbers are, no matter what the results are. Now if there is an NDA, that's fine, but just say that.

Almost like it's all bullshit. Can't be.

Thanks for the work! I don't know what claims from you they are finding...hate on the company, not the guy that shares what he can with the forum.
Personally, looking forward to seeing what gets developed.

Thank you. I just like to share what I can. This is why I don't really post in forums. The level of ignorance amazes me. I love this truck and want to share anything and everything about it…but the keyboard warriors really kill the mood.

You've shared effectively nothing on this thread.

"Sounds and feels amazing" were your words - not ours. Now we have no vids of sound and confirmation that there is no power increase. What exactly "felt amazing" while you were driving a truck with the same power? Was it the smoothness of the plastic? Was your GF in the truck at the same time??

I'm with the other guys - many have written off K&N as an option after this BS post.

just looking for full transparency and honesty! That is all that is needed

Not gonna continue to waste my time on this post and I also don't owe anything to anyone. I was excited for the possibility of an intake NOT made for the RHO to work given the similarities and I might have shared with you all too soon. My bad. No need for insults. End of story.

I think what everyone is trying to say is pretty simple.....

High hp gains were claimed by K&N (on a regular non-RHO RAM) and it sounded a bit...too good to be true. You came in saying you believed you had really nice gains with it installed on YOUR RHO and that it "felt and sounded amazing", which I'm sure most of can agree was likely a placebo effect that we ALL get using the 'ol butt-dyno. Then when the real numbers came back, you were a bit disappointed (and maybe a bit embarrassed) because the data wasn't in line with what you thought you experienced. And that's perfectly okay! It happens.....it's part of the R&D process. And it definitely gives K&N something to work on and I have no doubt they will. They're a pretty big name in the automotive performance industry so it kinda goes without saying. Were you maybe a bit too excited and overshared a bit early? Probably.....but I get it. Given the chance to be a "beta tester" for such things I'm sure many of us would've been in the same boat (regardless of what we say). I think the biggest takeaway is that we all likely got our hopes up a bit, praying that the data was correct and the numbers true and then when it turned out not to be the case for our prized RHO...we got a bit disappointed.

At the end of the day, it's your truck my man. And regardless of big hp gains or not....if it makes you happy...go for it! Personally I think it's pretty fuckin' cool you get to test a product like that! And maybe I speak for the rest of us...maybe I don't....but I hope K&N gets it figured out and comes to the table with a product that can really wake this already beast of a truck up a bit!
