K&N 50-1598

Not gonna continue to waste my time on this post and I also don't owe anything to anyone. I was excited for the possibility of an intake NOT made for the RHO to work given the similarities and I might have shared with you all too soon. My bad. No need for insults. End of story.
I think it would really help your case to post the dyno of before and after the intake. Otherwise it’s just woman prattle.

I think what everyone is trying to say is pretty simple.....

High hp gains were claimed by K&N (on a regular non-RHO RAM) and it sounded a bit...too good to be true. You came in saying you believed you had really nice gains with it installed on YOUR RHO and that it "felt and sounded amazing", which I'm sure most of can agree was likely a placebo effect that we ALL get using the 'ol butt-dyno. Then when the real numbers came back, you were a bit disappointed (and maybe a bit embarrassed) because the data wasn't in line with what you thought you experienced. And that's perfectly okay! It happens.....it's part of the R&D process. And it definitely gives K&N something to work on and I have no doubt they will. They're a pretty big name in the automotive performance industry so it kinda goes without saying. Were you maybe a bit too excited and overshared a bit early? Probably.....but I get it. Given the chance to be a "beta tester" for such things I'm sure many of us would've been in the same boat (regardless of what we say). I think the biggest takeaway is that we all likely got our hopes up a bit, praying that the data was correct and the numbers true and then when it turned out not to be the case for our prized RHO...we got a bit disappointed.

At the end of the day, it's your truck my man. And regardless of big hp gains or not....if it makes you happy...go for it! Personally I think it's pretty fuckin' cool you get to test a product like that! And maybe I speak for the rest of us...maybe I don't....but I hope K&N gets it figured out and comes to the table with a product that can really wake this already beast of a truck up a bit!
very well said, I agree with almost everything, this isn't meant to insult anyone.

I think my bigger issue is with k&n, their hp claims just aren't realistic. to get those sort of gains you need to be at a minimum catless/high flow cats and most likely a tune. Just changing the intake on a completely stock truck, even on the SO, won't give you that power increase. if someone shows me a video of a stock dyno run, changing the intake while still on that same dyno and then a new run that gains the "results may vary" advertised power; then I'll eat my words.

Having been in R&D much of my career… I have to say this is one of the strangest development processes I’ve encountered.

Bringing an external beta tester in without a NDA, claiming to have dyno sheets with huge gains to share before the engineering team even knows if the prototype fits the truck, and then having said beta tester go to a public forum to say they team is scrapping the concept and going back to the drawing board.

This entire post did more harm to K&N’s brand than it did to add value, and leaves a lot to question in how much confidence to put in the end product overall.

Not that I have a lot of details… it’s just sharing a bit too much about how the sausage is made. Would have been much better off not building hype for a completely underdeveloped product concept.
Yeah, I've gotta agree with Taco...

I've worked R&D for IBM, Raytheon Missile Systems, and Honeywell Aerospace...

The NDA agreements I had to sign were pages long. Some are still in effect, almost 25 years later.

Never heard of a company bringing in an outsider, never mind an outsider with no NDA or media restrictions.

Yes. Could not have said it better. Thank you.

So, back to original post no K&N options for the HO cool. Waiting on brands to come out as there's always something cooking.

I’m told S&B just started production on the Ram HO intake version … so you’ll see it available soon.

I’be been the tester for a few weeks now. Just left their facility this morning. Don’t ask me about anything, I’m no expert 🤣. I just volunteered since I’m close to their facility.

Do tell

KN system looks smaller than the original ... Currently have a KN intake system on my 2017 Silverado and love it. Definitely sounds nicer than the stock intake system

Watch the end of this video that Burger Tuning uploaded. They tested out the K&N intake on the dyno after showing the power increases on each map and they lost power running the K&N…

I noticed that yesterday I think they were perplexed too haha
