Can you do downpipes with the MRT trail rated? I like the trail rated because of the volume level and absolutely no drone. But would like a little more. I had the MRT extreme and it had a ridiculous amount of drone at highway speeds. Unbearable

down pipes will be more drone, right?

You’re on a similar path as I am. I have an MRT Trail Rated which I love as it almost completely eliminates the canned wet fart gear shifts but I just need a bit more, it’s too high pitched. Based on what I’ve heard downpipes are out, they’re way too difficult to tame for me.

So I’m thinking of keeping the Trail Rated and adding resonators, two just behind the cats (to smooth out some rasp and minimize cab drone) and two downstream of the mufflers (to hopefully deepen the tone).

I was thinking of going with Vibrant but most seem to think the cheap Amazon ones do almost as well?

I’m looking at the bottle resonators from LCGP. Just need to figure what I can fit in those locations.

Figure that might give me what I’m looking for (smoother deeper tone) without having to add additional h-pipes or x-pipes which would make the install more difficult.

If it’s too quiet (which it might be) I could always swap out the mufflers that come with the Trail Rated without having to rip anything else out.

I’m far from an expert on exhausts but that’s my current thinking.

Open to thoughts and critiques…

yes you can, there won't be much additional drone but overall volume will increase and cold starts will be much louder. DP's add considerable volume in the 200-500hz range which is why resonators work to lower said volume. When you get into the bass/drone frequencies say <150hz resonators don't do much.

I have this with the oe exhaust and DP's on my vehicle. Except I just moved the oe H-pipe and put resonators before it. The H-pipe attenuates a lot of the nastiness in the midrange frequencies ie, rasp.

To answer your question it is just a crossover tube.

So i asked ai a few different ways and a few different times. I dont think the Vibrant resonators are going to add much. I dont think the juice is worth the squeeze. You have to move/rebuild the h pipe so you have 12" of straight pipe to put on the resonators. Every other spot is angled on one pipe. Not a huge deal but work. Then the volume level on the resonators is the same as the MRT trail rated which I thought was a good thing but you will barely hear the extremely little deep tones the resonators provide, unless maybe at cold start or standing behind the truck when its on. Dont think you will hear anything inside the cabin. Its hard to add deep tones to this truck. Its literally adding volume which comes with drone. Even the AWE is great on drone on the highway but at spirited acceleration, its too loud for my taste (and wifey). Im gonna stick with the trail rated as is for now. I do like the sound at start up and acceleration which is key when youre the driver of the truck. Its a little lacking at idle but....im not outside the truck listening to it idle. Good luck if you do anything. Let me know please.

I can confirm, on stock exhaust, no noticeable drone. The truck will be slightly louder overall, (to me) higher pitched, and more raspy. I can feel the turbo's spooling faster. Which provide power earlier in the power band. Which is what these were designed to do.

I will say these were impressively well made! However, I am not in love with the sound with the factory exhaust and PSP downpipes. I don't think that's anyone's fault. I removed my AFE exhaust with internal baffles because that just made it so much worse. @Jramos44 went down an entire road of putting together a decent sound with the PSPs using several after market components with the stock exhaust. That thread was very helpful. I will likely end up doing some customizations.

Same set up as me but he left the stock valves on .
