RHO range and MPG

I would be roasted for posting this over on the TRX forum - but I just ticked up to 13.7 mpg in my TRX over about 3 1/2 tanks of gas. No one is more surprised than me. You are declared a panty waste over there if you don't get less than 10. Just figured I would share this as a point of reference.

Some of those guys are very insecure about themselves, that is a fact! I have no problem telling people I drive a bad ass 6 cylinder truck and can beat many o cars stoplight to stoplight and beyond :)

I'm at about 6200 miles and have settled into a pretty much rock solid 13.9mpg on 93. I thought maybe summer gas would help but it's made no difference at all. I drive like an old nun, so I think it just is what it is. She's a thick, thirsty bitch.

This is on an RHO, not a TRX by the way since apparently now on this RHO thread we have to specify.

I’m averaging in the 14.0-14.5 range mixed city and highway driving with a daily WOT blast or two. 93 octane only.

MPG pretty horrible I must say lol.. on a 700 mile mostly highway roadtrip the average was 14.2. Driving to my appointments I now have 13.6mpg.. The best for this truck is to drive in 30 mile zones, getting around 19mpg :D on highway at 85mph it's around 11 actual mpg, 13 at 78mph..

Lifetime average at 1538 miles is 16.6 mpg with a steady mix of low-speed DC highways 55-75 mph and country roads 40-50 mph, although at my last fill up (last night), I was pleasantly surprised by a predicted range of 578 miles (17.5 mpg). So it seems like it is still going up. I think my truck had a lot of idle time when I bought it -- probably to charge battery(?) Warmer weather also seems to make a difference, as does Top Tier 93 octane fuel (thank you, COSTCO). The donkey piss that was in the tank when I bought it I believe was the reason it was not using 8th gear. Tire pressure helps too. I'm running 42 psi cold // 47 hot. Trying to keep WOT brief and infrequent -- but I still feel like I'm driving like granny. It is all how you drive it. Coasting downhill to 85 to keep up momentum for the next uphill certainly helps too.

It will be ok Matt. The OP mentioned coming from a TRX in his original post as a reference point. Sorry if I mentioned it as a . . . reference point.

That's really good! My old Nissan Titan XD was only getting 15.5 or so on average - and I drove it like a granny. Flooring it didn't really do anything exciting - so I didn't do it much. Plus I have a pretty ideal/low-key commute anyway. Another mpg or so on a truck on 35s, that is taller and heavier and with 140 more hp seems pretty damn good to me.

I’m pretty much locked in at 14.4 so far with about 900mi. I did notice I can force it higher if I manually shift to 8. Sometimes it wants to ride in 6th or 7th.

I’m actually pretty happy with 14.4 with how I’ve driven it so far. Much heavier foot than I normally would drive, and my previous Ram on 35s was 15.5 average when I traded in. I’m sure if I just stuck this in Street mode and drove it normally I’ll be into the 15s.

14.7 mpg for me, still on the first tank. Dealership filled it up so happy so far

One other thing I noticed that others said is that it holds gears longer than most cars. Even other cars with the same ZF 8 speed will always try and try to get to 8th. This doesn’t. It’s almost like auto mode is a sport mode-lite.
I feel they should have an Eco mode which gets it to the highest gear. For when you want that.

I talked to my cousin today and he has a previous gen tundra with the V8 and he runs 35” tires on it… he gets average 12 MPG 😂. I feel okay getting 15 on the RHO

Totally agree, especially with cruise control set on the highway. Even pulling the slightest incline triggers a downshift, and holds the gear for much longer than necessary.

Are those gauges (font type/style) an option only if you have the Level 1 package?

no you can change the themes in settings. there are themes for the center screen and drive themes for the cluster.

Uconnect screen, vehicle settings, theme...5 different to choose from. Theme 4 is the sporty one.

Anyone know how I can pull up maps to show on my gauge cluster??? I had it look like this on my first RHO but I can’t find it to do it on this one and I loved having my nav in front of me instead of just the turn by turn instructions.
