I was reading about all the advanced tech inside our engines today. They really took some notes after tearing down a BMW I6 TT. So far, no big surprises with engine failures. But, it’s only a matter of time before these complex engines start to shit the bed. THAT is gonna hurt our wallets!

Nope. But remember…BMW has been building these complex engines for many, many years. Before car engines, they were building aircraft engines.

Just got an update from my service coordinator.

The battery and truck passed all checks for parasitic draw, and the batteries hold a charge/discharge within normal use parameters.

They are running more tests throughout the day and tomorrow morning.

Guess I'll be carrying a quality emergency jump starter for the foreseeable future.

UPDATE: We got it started, and the dash was lit up with every warning light the truck has.

I couldn't get the parking brake to release, so I let it run for 20 minutes before shutting it off.

It restarted, and most of the warning lights shut off.

Drove it to the dealership - service coordinator said he'd probably know whether it's just the batteries or more involved by tomorrow.

How did you get it started? Jump from another car or portable jumper?

I slid my service advisor 2 dozen donuts and told him to make sure the batteries were replaced. They obliged. Did you VIN pop with needing the software update for battery drain?!

I know you’re not asking me but, when mine was dead I had a brand new Noco GB20 I tried and it wouldn’t even turn it over. That sucked since Noco states it’s big enough for these trucks.

Roadside pulled out a 2500 amp Noco and it fired right up.

I bet 2000a is plenty. My GB20 is only 500 and the roadside guys was 2500 and it had no problem spinning it over.

VEHICLE HAD A DEAD BATTERY ON ARRIVAL.

PERFORMED A DRAW TEST ON VEHICLE AFTER CHARGING BATTERY.

FOUND MULTIPLE ECU'S WAKING UP RANDOMLY AFTER 45 MIN. DRAW WOULD BE WITHIN SPEC THEN JUMP TO .456 AMPS. FOUND TEC TO TEC FORUM CASE THAT POINTED TO THE RFH WAKING UP MODULES ON THIS PARTICULAR MODLE OF TRUCK. WHEN DISCONNECTED RFH CAUSES ALL MODULES TO STAY AWAKE INDEFINETLY CAUSING 15 AMP DRAW. REC RFH DUE TO TECH TO TECH TIP. REPLACED RFH. TESTED SYSTEM DRAW POST REPLACEMENT. FOUND AMP STILL OUT OF SPEC.

DRAW IS .286 AMPS POST RFH REPLACEMENT AFTER COOL DOWN PERIOD (45MIN). CONSULTED TA REP ROBERT ABOUT ISSUE AND HE RECOMMENDED THAT A PCM BE REPLACED DUE TO DRAW ISSUE HE HAS SEEN ON MULTIPLE OTHER TRUCKS OF THE SAME MODEL. REPLACED PCM DUE TO HIS RECOMMENDATION WITH NEW PCM. TESTED POWER DOWN DRAW AFTER PROGRAMMING PC AND RESETTING ALL PCM PARAMETERS. FOUND KEY OFF POWER DRAW AFTER 45 MIN AT .037

Especially after 36,000mi...these trips to the dealership aren't going to be free anymore- they're going to come right out of our pockets.

That obviously goes for any of these electrical gremlin issues. It's not that big of a deal when it's all free, but it's going to absolutely suck after the warranty ends. Basically 100% of us are still under warranty, soI think a lot of people aren't considering this part when they talk about these nuisance issues not being a huge deal. It will be a huge deal very quickly when we gotta start spending $2,300 to get our digital clusters working again.

Radio silence from Ram per usual. Have they even publicly acknowledged this issue exists?

It's not like these trucks came out 3 months ago anymore. It's been well over a year, and no long-term fix in sight.

So, I have a thought as someone who is waiting to order (need to see the Serrano Green in person before pulling the trigger because it would be my first choice unless it's straight up ugly). This isn't directed at Wrinkled Dounut, but rather everyone in this community. There are always going to be issues with vehicles...especially with all of the electronics in them now. If you're going to own the RHO for more than 3 years...why wouldn't everyone's first mod be an extended warranty from Granger? Yeah, I know it doesn't help what ram hasn't fixed from year 1 to now. However, considering the prices for the mods I've seen on this forum...the extended warranty is peanuts by comparison.

Eh. I agree with the spirit of this argument but it implies there is some ability for the consumer to hold the manufacturer accountable.

That doesn't exist, so the extended warranty (assuming it's honored) is a reasonable option that actually exists for people who expect to own the truck long term.

All the manufacturers suck so the only two plays are either to sit the game out entirely or to take every reasonable protection you can.

Unfortunately you're right. It is what it is I suppose, I've never kept a vehicle longer than 3 years in my entire life and I sure as shit don't plan on starting with this truck . I kind of would like to though, suppose we'll see how everything has been so far around the 30k mile mark.

I will start with this…When my truck is running, I love it. The look, the finish, the performance, very hard to beat. This is my first RAM. Last 4 vehicles 2017 Tundra, 2019 Telsa Model S, 2021 BMW 8 series, 2022 BMW X5, 2024 X5. Since 2017 the only vehicle that went into the shop for a warranty claim was the Tesla - the torque destroyed one of the axels. My 2024 X5 included hands free driving - more tech vs the RAM. I don’t think I was just lucky from 2017 until I purchased my RAM. I did not expect to cross my fingers each day and hope my truck starts. But I do really enjoy it when it does……
