blown away that it cost $160 for a basic oil change.

my local dealer has a deal where you can prebuy packs of 3 oil changes; the 3 packs are significantly less

For example, on my ecoDiesel a single oil change was $260 but a diesel pre-paid 3 pack is $310 after tax; so, $103 per oil change and the ecoDiesel oil/filter would run me $85 on their own.

Not sure what the RHO cost will be.

That said, I did make a bit of a mess on my 1st oil change. There’s a lot of oil sitting above the filter, which gets pretty messy when unscrewed. I’ll have to find a solution for that before my next change.

Edit: just found this on Amazon and it was exactly what I was envisioning. Might give this a shot and connect a hose to the end of it.

Has anyone done their 1st oil change? No place around me carries OW-40 full synthetic and they admit they have never changed the oil in a RHO. Trying to avoid going to the dealership. Curious if anyone has had trouble finding a spot or is it just me?

I am taking mine to the dealer as well. My dealer is offering a 125 dollar oil change and I too want to keep dealer docs for the extended warranty.

Two questions:

1. Anyone thinking about a dealer oil change worried about your truck getting that update that apparently caps your speed/HP ?

2. I’ve seen this Mopar coupon floating around. Has anyone tried it? Just wondering if it works since the RHO need more than 6 Qts of oil .

NAPA will run some good specials every now and then (half off) on the Pennzoil Platinum Ultra 0w-40 you need, or else go to Amazon. Oil chnges on these Hurricane motors is a piece of cake. I'm even using up my remaining AC Delco PF63 oil filters left over from my Silverado ZR2; they cross reference and are just fine for these OCI's.

Yes, that accounts for the filter, as well. My experience on two oil changes with my Wife's Grand Wagoneer and this HO Hurricane motor are that I let it drain long and good, after first warming up my motor (water temp heats up quick, oil takes a little longer,) so that I get as much oil out as I can.

I have only put 7qts out of the 7.5qts it calls for, back in my motor, both times, and when I check the digital oil level, it is spot on. Always put at least half a quart less than what it calls for in your motor when you fill it back up, (in case you didn't get all of the old oil out,) and then verify where your oil level is. Drive it and let it sit overnight, and re-check it.

Did my first oil change at 1k miles and the next one 3k miles later.

There is only one oil with the MS-A0921 spec and that's Pennzoil Ultra Plat 0w-40 with the SRT logo on it. A comparable ACEA C3 oil might be the M1 0w-40 Supercar oil required for LT2 powered C8 Corvettes. Napa runs the Pennz Ultra Plat on sale every now and then; I just bought a case of 6 bottles for $41.44 on Amazon.

Amsoil doesn't buy anybody's oil specs; they just say you can use their oil where you need such and such spec. Is it going to void your warranty? Of course not. But it's not exactly the same thing. Amsoil meets the spec in the same way the GM DexosR 0w-40 for the C8 Corvette does; you could run either. A UOA isn't going to tell you the difference and thereby either product will not void your warranty.

Amsoil is typically great oil, and its specs are usually (but not always) hard to beat. In its 0w-40 SS, I like its high 14.8 cSt kinematic viscosity at 100°C, as well as its high TBN of 12.5 and HTHS of 3.76. Pennzoil doesn't even publish its TBN or HTHS figures for the Ultra Plat 0w-40.

The Pennzoil Ultra Plat is a GTL motor oil, specifically formulated with Dodge/Ram/Jeep for their SRT products, and you can tell it's also an excellent base stock with its -51°C pour point. Pennzoil also offers a 20 year, 750k mile warranty if you use their oil exclusively on your motor, as well. (Not sure how good that may or may not be, as I've never heard of anybody filing a claim for it.)

However, remember where RAM is now saying RHO's need not exceed 6k mile OCI's? (It was an addendum in the My25 owners manual and it's there in the MY26 owners manual.) I wouldn't pay a whole lot more for the Amsoil (or any other oil,) when you can get the Pennz Ultra Plat shipped to your door via Amazon for $41 for a case of 6qts, and you're not going to run that oil more than 6k miles.

I usually do Mobile 1 full synthetic but the local shops to me have Mobile 1 0W-40 on European blend or something like that. I’ve never heard of that as all my cars have been different oil weight.

Has anyone ran this type of oil before?

I kept running into the European vehicles label as well. I went with the penzoil ultra plat with the SRT logo. Amazon had 15% off so I ordered 2 cases of it.
