1st oil change

I changed my oil at 930 miles.

Very easy to change.

I used Pennzoil Ultra Platinum, Liqui Moly Ceratec as an additive and change the oil drain plug with a Valvomax drain plug for an even easier oil change next at 3000 miles.
I’m not a fan of adding anything to high quality oil like Ultra Platinum. From what I’ve seen, any additive makes it worse.

Has anyone done their 1st oil change? No place around me carries OW-40 full synthetic and they admit they have never changed the oil in a RHO. Trying to avoid going to the dealership. Curious if anyone has had trouble finding a spot or is it just me?
My dealer hasn’t changed oil in an RHO yet and several dealers within 2hrs of me have never even had one on the lot.

Did they give you a mile minimum or max per year?

Chris
So the way it’s worded is 20 oil changes / TR over the 6 year period. Plus the 1st one free from the dealer. So let’s call it 21 over 6 years.

I did my 12000+ mile oil change last Saturday...the life indicator showed 37% life left...Consider that I have driven huge blocks of miles at a time >700...
From what I remember, I had the dealership perform an oil change at ~250miles and then again at ~5000 miles...Everything looked absolutely spotless underneath, was surprised, usually you see evidence of overspill...Anyway, wrapped the frame with tin foil under the drain plug, making a channel for the oil to dribble down at the end...Tried the Oil Udder, without piercing the filter body...Worked OK, I had the udder pushed up onto the filter thinking it would catch the overflow from the seal, my mistake...next time I use it, I'll loosen the filter have the udder in place, punch a hole close to the bottom and it should be 95% successful capturing all the oil...Clean up was easy...I also installed the Valvomax drain kit...This should make for quicker simple drain downs in the future... :D

I’ve called and spoke to two dealerships so far. $229 & $289. Is this a ripoff for a single oil change? I know it is but just need confirmation. What should I be looking for to pay?

So parts are roughly $100, what do you feel is a fair price to remove, replace and recycle oil and filter....askin for a friend

I paid $135

Just ordered 30 quarts of Pennzoil Ultra Platinum off Amazon yesterday, they had it on sale FYI. It’s still $64.99 for 6 quarts, down froM $74.

NAPA has Pennzoil Ultra Platinum on Sale ~$34 for 5Qts...

Don't run the Euro formula 0w-40, folks! That is an ACEA A3/B4, which is a high SAPS oil. Sulphated Ash, Phosphorus, and Sulphur. They are good for older engines, but bad for your emissions. They don't work well in direct injection motors, either. The 0W-40 oils we need for our motors are an ACEA C3 oil, which is a mid-SAPS oil.

Newer vehicles with DI and newer emissions require this lower level of SAPS to save your cats and motor. The Mobil 1 0W-40 oil that you could buy for your Hurricane motor is the Supercar variant, intended for the Corvette. M1 has gotten really coy about posting any specs on their Supercar blend oils, but the 0W-40 is an ACEA C3 oil equivalent.

M1 grew tired of all their Corvette owners buying 5qt jugs of 5w-30 at Walmart for $25 so they concocted with GM and changed the recommended viscosity to 0W-40 in the middle of the C7 production run. They even said you could run the 0W-40 all the way back to when their first LS motors came out in Corvette in 1997. A few years later, M1 came out with their Supercar label to help keep the cost up, and they don't sell that oil in 5qt jugs, let alone even at Walmart.

ACEA C3:
Stable, stay-in-grade engine oil with mid-SAPS Level, for aftertreatment system compatibility.
Intended for use at extended oil drain intervals in passenger car and light-duty gasoline & DI
diesel engines designed for engine oils with HTHS viscosity of minimum 3.5 mPa⋅s.

ACEA A3/B4:
Stable, stay-in-grade engine oil intended for use in passenger car and light-duty gasoline &
diesel engines and/or for extended oil drain intervals where specified by the engine
manufacturer.

For the money, and given the 6k mile OCI's on our RHO's, stick with the Pennzoil Ultra Plat and stock up an oil change or two ahead of time when you can get the oil on sale!
very helpful information, learned a lot.

My RHO is mostly a weekend warrior truck, so less than 4K miles per year. I am thinking just change oil every year instead of every 6-month. I saw a lot of comments that even if full synthetic oil is good for 1 year, still better to change oil every 6-months. Not sure if it applies to my case.

Owners manual states it must be changed every 6000k or six months which ever comes first.
Would hate to see you void a warranty on something so simple, if something were to happen.
