Looks like I'm the latest victim...

Sitting in traffic, foot on the brake, and all of a sudden I get "the chime". Look down and there it is...CEL is on. I didn't have any kind of power loss or stutter, but I was only about 5 mins from work and traffic was slow so didn't really have a chance to give it any kind of power. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say cats are toast, but won't know for sure until I can get it in the shop. Funny thing is is that I was going to come into work and go ahead and purchase extended warranty today, now I'm not sure if I should bother at the moment? Thoughts?

I don't think the melting cat issue is that common - but time will tell . . .

I'm thinking seriously about adding a couple of years (or actually, I'm more interested in miles) to my warranty. I drive close to 15k a year - so 36k comes up pretty quickly. I'd like to go with the 60k version - which shouldn't be too expensive.

I had the same thing happen Monday. I'm going to try and disconnect the batteries, then reconnect and fire it up, see if CEL goes away. No loss of power, nothing else noticeable except remote start won't work with CEL active.

Disconnecting batteries is more cumbersome than I anticipated. Auxilliary battery is hard to reach. Main battery seems to have the positive terminal cable secured with an extra bolt, so I didn't get it done last night.

I'm gonna just ride this CEL for a little bit since its not blinking. I'll go back out at lunch and see how the truck feels power wise. Hopefully it'll clear itself out and its nothing.

Good luck! Keep us posted.

You can add the warranty anytime before the first 12 months, as long as you haven't exceeded the mileage. I usually wait until 9 months in, and use that as my gauge for how much i'll want/need unless there's a deal on the warranty (granger has one at the moment). Dealers tend to make it seem like you have to buy it when you get the car, which is slight of hand.

I may do the same tonight when I get home from work. I don't think it's actually the cats since I didnt notice any type of performance issue.

How many miles on yours? I just turned 2300 miles.

Yea I was actually going to take the deal Granger has right now. I don't normally go with an extended warranty at all but this truck is the most I've spent on a vehicle ever so a little peace of mind for a few years/miles would be nice. And I knew I could get a better deal than what the dealer was going to offer, hence why I didn't originally do it.

Am I the only one that took the dealer extended warranty? haha 6/60 no deductible for 2800.

2727...made a quick note of that when I saw the CEL light up
Good to know. I had the Blind Spot Sensors/Forward Collision Warning alert pop up right around 500 miles. Cleaned off all sensors (it was December in Ohio, lots of grime and sludge/salt on the roads). Code cleared itself in a couple of days. It's been normal since then until CEL on Monday.

I bought 8 yr/100K miles from my dealership for about 4K. Not from Mopar, I forget the name of the company, but I can look. Supposed advantage is that it doesn't have to be taken to a Mopar dealer for repair. Probably a line of BS. But I figure I could cancel it and purchase the Mopar warranty if I want.

Mine was with LDS , Louisiana Dealer Services good nationwide and also got the Safe Guard Ultimate Protection Plus for wheels, rims, paint etc.

Mine came on awhile back and cleared itself. Last week the sideview mirrors were triggering on for no reason at all in my nieghborhood but then wouldn't come on when there was actually somebody in my blindspot. By the time I got to work they were working perfectly fine so not sure if they needed cleaned off or what? It was drizzling rain the whole time in so maybe that was driving the sensors crazy

Are you guys with the check engine lights reading the codes to see what the fault is before disconnecting the battery?

Might not be a bad idea to know what the code is before resetting

Let us know what company it is. Have two 3500s and would prefer to take to a shop we want and not Ram dealer for repairs. That'd be a huge plus if this is the case.

Yeah. I did have the blind spot sensors activating (orange triangles appearing) a couple of times with no one in my blind spot. But it was in the winter driving down a very narrow, tree lined street with bright snow all around on the ground. This happened 3 separate times on my way to work in January. Hasn't happened since. I chalked it up to all the reflected light and the sensors picking up the trees for objects in my blind spot

Damn. Didn't think of that! I was just dreading calling the dealer, waiting likely a week, then having to actually go there and waste probably 3 hours of my day getting it looked at. But you raise a good point

I haven't had a chance to read the codes but I wanted to check it prior to disco'ing the battery just so I know.
