Add another to the CEL group...

I haven't had a chance to read the codes but I wanted to check it prior to disco'ing the battery just so I know.

What are you using to check codes?

I don't have anything at the moment. Will probably just swing by Autozone or the like and go from there. I need to get something of my own though

You can add the warranty anytime before the first 12 months, as long as you haven't exceeded the mileage. I usually wait until 9 months in, and use that as my gauge for how much i'll want/need unless there's a deal on the warranty (granger has one at the moment). Dealers tend to make it seem like you have to buy it when you get the car, which is sleight of hand.
True, but that’s convenient because you can roll it into your loan vs out of pocket later. I’m adding mine at purchase.

Yeah. I've been thinking I need to get something as well. If anyone has suggestions, let me know!

Can auto zone clear the code for you? or just check it?

You can read and clear from any code reader. They don't have to be complex and I use one similar to this.

Let us know what company it is. Have two 3500s and would prefer to take to a shop we want and not Ram dealer for repairs. That'd be a huge plus if this is the case.
I just looked mine up. It's called Assurant. 8 yrs/ 100K miles. $250 deductable. $4400. I got the premium package. They also have a premium plus, which covers wiper blades, etc. Didn't think I needed to go that far. LOL

Forgive the question, I'm pretty mechanically inclined, but quite the opposite when it comes to electronics/tech stuff.
If the code is cleared, does the CEL go away? At least until that code or another returns?

Yes, haha. I've had many readers clear the fault only to return and until a fix is in place. Sometimes its just a computer thing and the fault doesn't come back. Always good to have your own reader though.

Thanks! I’ll swing by autozone and pick up a reader today like you say, always a good thing to have.

Am I the only one that took the dealer extended warranty? haha 6/60 no deductible for 2800.
I took dealer warranty, not mopar. 5/60 2400. $100 deductible unless it was at dealer I purchased from which won’t happen since that’s a long ways away.

I don't think you can go wrong with those numbers

Well, I had the day off so went to AutoZone and get a scanner. They only had one type (for $65), but I really dread a trip to the dealer. Let me backtrack. This morning, I called the dealer I purchased from and described my CEL on a 3 month old truck. Earliest they could get me in is next Thursday, they recommend leaving for 2-3 days, and no loaners until April. Naturally, I told them to go pound sand. So, off to Autozone, since I wanted to get this today. Hooked it up, and lo and behold, no codes present on the scanner. So, I erased the CEL and fired up the engine. Drove around the block, and it did not return. I'll see how it goes on the way to work tomorrow!!

My question to the folks familiar with the scanners: what tripped the CEL? Does no diagnosis code mean that there's just no active code, but there could have been one before that tripped the CEL and then self corrected?

Wait...did you buy the factory warranty or another, if not, why?

Why would you not but a factory warranty vs a third party? I heard all over this board and FB to NOT buy any other warranty and only go through Mopar.

I'm no expert on this, but a third party warranty does not limit you to Mopar dealers to fix the issues. That's the biggest difference I think. Not saying either is better or worse than the other.

I would also recommend staying away from third party warranties. I was burned on a previous truck. Kept it in pristine shape but had my local shop do all the service instead of a dealer, I bought it used. A couple years down the road I need to replace a CV joint, which was covered under the warranty. Made a claim, to which I was required to provide my service history before they would cover it. Had my shop send over the records but the company rejected my claim because at the 50k mile service the shop didn’t replace my air filter.

Apparently air filters are very closely linked to the performance and failure of CV joints……

After a lot of wasted time on the phone arguing, I vowed to never buy another third party warranty again.

If you have one, just make sure you read the fine print on what is required of you to “maintain” the warranty. It’s their job the reject your claims to protect profit.

Yea @RamFan didn't you have expertise in warranty options and ONLY favored MaxCare through Mopar? Or for that matter, even Flexcare? I'm sure it was you that had the loudest voice in the room when we discussed warranties in Jan/Feb timeframe.

Took the factory since it was easy plus 0 deductible 100% covered. Also, she said they used to carry Mopar (Granger or someone else can't remember) but had too many complaints i.e. took too long, wouldn't cover yada yada yada so they split.

I got one from the dealership, but not Mopar. Prosidium Auto Care, Max Wrap Plan. $2100 for a 60mo/100K but I'm going to spend some time reading the fine print now. Anyone have any experience with this one?
